Re: Under dash panel

Thanks Carl. What is the material made of? I would guess it has to be somewhat flexible.

Under dash panel

Does anyone know what the board is made of for the shield under the dash? I have the covering but I don't know if it is two pieces or one and what it is made of. Seems to me it needs to be somewhat flexible to follow the contour of the dash.
Thanks,

Mark

Re: Power to TCc 7801 ignition switch

Call off the wolves! My wife came down to the shop last night and asked what the problem was. I explained that I got power to everything except what was supposed to start the car, that the wiring was correct, but it still wouldn't start. She simply said it "had to be the switch" and suggested that I...

Power to TCc 7801 ignition switch

Need a bit of help. Just completed the wiring of TC7801 without flashers using W.75781 which is in the Instruction manual. Prior to energizing the system I checked most of the circuits and all was good. When I connected the battery, all of the lighting circuits worked but the ignition warning lamp w...

Re: Bishops cam oil level

Thanks for the info. I guess I'll just fill it full with 140 wt fluid and check it from time to time. Mark

Bishops cam oil level

I'm putting together the steering box on TC7801. I have a Bishops cam installed from the previous owner. How much lubricant should there be in the box and how is it checked and/or added in the future? There doesn't seem to be any way of adding lube if it needs it. Also, what is the recommended type ...

Re: Parts needed for TC 7801

Steve,

Please look for the reflectors. I don't know the cost of re-silverimg but at least it gives me some options. Thanks,

Mark

Re: Parts needed for TC 7801

Now that is certainly an option. I'll have to consider that as a possibility. Thanks, Mark.

Parts needed for TC 7801

I'm tying to close in on the completion of TC 7801 and need some parts. I got the car in pieces "as is" and as I go along I find that some items were not with the car. I'm almost finished with the paining and the tub is on the chassis so I'm now into the assembly process. I'm looking for at this tim...

Re: sector shaft bore

Stephen, I'll make a note and tie it to the steering box for when I get it set up and ready to run, I experienced a similar situation with both of my TD's. One is concours(and a driver) and the other is strictly a driver. They would always wander even with the all components brought back to spec. I ...

Re: sector shaft bore

Stephen, my '70 Morgan 4/4 has a similar steering box. I can drive it at 70 and the car tracks straight. Therein lies my theory that TC 7801 should track properly when all is said and done. I help my BIL with old Jeeps and Willys in the U.P. of Michigan where we spend the summers. If I recall, the s...

Re: sector shaft bore

Well, I think I have the issue I was facing all figured out. After much checking and measuring and disassembly and reassembly I have come up with enough good parts to make a very satisfactory steering box. The good sector shaft has virtually no wear on it because it has been chromed or hardened and ...

sector shaft bore

I have TC 7801 which has taken me entirely too long to finish but I'm getting there. I am working on the steering box. Over the years I have gathered three steering column/steering boxes. I've taken them all apart recently and found that they are all different regarding the sector shaft. In one unit...

Re: Rear engine oil seal leak

I'm going to study how to keep the gasket from sealing the breather pipe. Lots of options. The new hole in the gasket didn't seems to allow any oil to escape through the tube but I really don't want a direct path to the outside. I'll figure something out. I'm "breathing" a sigh of relief knowing tha...

Re: Rear engine oil seal leak

Well, things are interesting. I kept wondering how could so much oil could be coming from the rear seal during short run times while tuning things up. The builder couldn't have screwed up the seal if everything else was good such as compression at 150 psi etc. There had to be more to the problem and...

Re: Rear engine oil seal leak

Thanks for the info. I guess I'll just have to pull the engine and take a peek at what has been done. That will dictate what to do next. Hopefully I can get at it in the next couple of weeks. We leave for several months during the summer. It might not get attention until this fall. I really don't wa...

Re: Rear engine oil seal leak

Stephen, I'm inclined to go the slinger route but it still sounds like the engine needs to be disassembled. Is that correct?

Rear engine oil seal leak

Making a bit of progress on TC7801. Got it running finally and tuned up. All is well and it runs very well except for one big item. The engine had been rebuilt 20 years ago and was a stalled project when I bought it. It had reportedly been rebuilt and test run which I believe to be true based on new...

Re: Brush installation in a TC starter

Steve, I used to own an industrial motor repair plant. We rebuilt electric motors, generators, turbines, pumps etc. up to about 10,000 Hp. Occasionally someone would come in with a motor/need like yours. There was no way we could economically help that person out. Our best recommendation was to find...
