Replacing Blown Head Gasket

I have been dealing with overheating on my 1948 MGTC. I’ve reset the mixture, the timing, had the radiator flow tested, installed an MGB 7 blade fan, and replaced the water pump. I pulled the head and found evidence of a blown head gasket between cylinders 2 and 3. My question is when I replace the ...

Distributor Problem

I am replacing the distributor on my 1948 MGTC and have run into a problem with the mounting. I have the micro-adjuster between the bracket that bolts to the block and the actual distributor clamp. The distributor holding bolt is a shoulder bolt that goes through the block clamp which has an elongat...

Mixture Adjustment on TC with Twin SU 1 1/4 Carbs

I just finished rebuilding the XPAG engine on my 1948 MGTC. After running break-in oil and putting a number of heat cycles on the engine I switched to my standard oil. The engine had been running hotter than it had been before so I started checking for a reason. The radiator, thermostat, proper posi...

MGB Fan

I've seen discussion about people installing the 7 blade plastic MGB fan on their MGTC's. I was wondering if this is just a bolt on installation or if some modifications need to be made to use this fan?

Re: Still Struggling with the XPAG Cam Sprocket Installation

Gene - I was finally able to get the cam sprocket on and secured properly. I talked to Doug Pelton and he spoke with his engine rebuilder. The fix was a new thick washer and then using emery cloth to smooth the back of the bolt head and slightly rounding the sharp corners on the back of the bolt hea...

Still Struggling with the XPAG Cam Sprocket Installation

Gentlemen - I'm trying to install the cam sprocket onto the cam in my MGTC engine. I've installed the sprocket, then the oil slinger, then the flat washer, then the tab washer, and finally the bolt that holds it all together. Before I tighten the bolt I rotate the tab washer until the tab locks into...

Installation of XPAG Front Rope Seal

The gasket kit for my XPAG contains two sections of graphite impregnated packing rope for the front engine seal. One piece goes in the grove at the front of the oil pan and the other goes in the groove at the bottom of the timing cover. When the packing is installed a considerable amount of the pack...

Re: Cam Sprocket Attachment and Tab Washer

Steve - Thanks for the input. I didn't make sense to have a tab washer if it didn't lock to the sprocket. I went and looked at my cam sprocket again. The sprocket has a center web with a hub with the bore through it projecting from each side. What I believe is the front of the sprocket has one tooth...

Cam Sprocket Attachment and Tab Washer

I'm working on the rebuild of my 1948 XPAG engine and I'm having some problem with the attachment of the camshaft sprocket. I installed the cam sprocket then the oil slinger with the cupped side toward the camshaft sprocket. I then installed the washer followed by the tab washer and the cam sprocket...

XPAG Connecting Rod Needed

I am in the process of rebuilding the engine on my 1948 MGTC and I've got bad threads for the wrist pin clamp bolt in the small end of the #3 connecting rod. The bad rod without the bearing installed , including the cap and bolts weighs 623.6 grams. Would anyone have a spare rod that could help me o...

Cracked Block

I am looking for advice on how to approach a repair to the XPAG engine block on my 1948 MGTC. Looking at the engine block from the rear, the right lower mounting hole in the block for the bell housing has cracked through the hole and the small ear projection by where the starter mounts has fallen of...

Re: Forum and Web Site Comments

Steve -

A number of other forum sites I visit have a button called new posts. This allows me to click and see only the new posts that have been added to the site since my last visit. Is this possible with this forum?

I appreciate all your hard work on this site.

Best regards,

Paul
