Re: TC Front End Improvements-Handling
Ray- Thank you for being specific about why you went with the VW steering. Makes complete sense. I agree the Radial tire is a glamorous idea. My concern is fitment on the rear axle. Width is very limited on the TC, and the (bias ply) Model A tires I am currently running just barely fit. Getting the...

Re: TC Front End Improvements-Handling
I fitted a VW steering box because I have painful hands and dislike heavy steering while manoeuvring. The advantages of safety and stability were of secondary importance although I have fitted a Panhard rod because apart from the shock absorber arms there is nothing to locate the axle and stop it mo...

Re: TC Bonnet Realignment "In Situ"
Has the car had a new body tub at some time? When I fitted my new body, the bonnet needed trimming. Also, my car had suffered a trauma at some time(pre 1960)and what was done back then is anyone's guess.

Re: TC spare wheel spinner.
I have been overthinking this. The problem is not with the spinner but with the wheel and the hub.
I simply wrapped some fabric insulating tape around the neck of the hub and fitted the wheel.
It is now a tight fit.

Re: TC spare wheel spinner.
When I assembled mine, I found there was an optimum point at which the spllt pin could be fitted. Too far in and you can't access the holes.

Re: TC spare wheel spinner.
AHHH! I think I know what the problem is.
In the photo, my new spinner is placed alongside the original. You can see that the original has a taper and the new one is machined differently.
Quite what to do about it is another matter!!

Re: TC spare wheel spinner.
I don't think the overall length is an issue as there is plenty of room from the end of the threads to the back of the hub. Also, the wheel does not tighten regardless of what I do even if I use a mallet to tighten the spinner. The only improvement is made by adding a ring of foam rubber to the hub ...

Re: TC spare wheel spinner.
The taper on the hub is the same as yours i.e. 1"
The unthreaded part on my spinner is just 3/4". That is 1/2" smaller than yours.
I am not sure what I need to do about it.

TC spare wheel spinner.
I have just bought one of these ingenious devices as my original was missing, The problem I am having is that although it works - in that the emblem remains correctly orientated - the wheel is not tight on the mounting despite tightening the spinner.

Re: TA Body Tub Timber Construction Pictures
When I came to fitting the windscreen stanchions, I found that the brackets were in the way of the bolt holes. I resorted to drilling and tapping the brackets (in situ) to take the long screws.

Re: TC Grille/Shell Fitting
I know that I won't be happy with a curved edge, but it sometimes needs someone else to say it as well. This morning I had a go a straightening one of the edges by drilling some holes in a straight metal bar and then bolting the edge of the grille to it. It does seem to work without cracking the ch...

Re: TC Grille/Shell Fitting
Hi Steve. It looks to me like the whole rad shell has been pushed in the middle on both sides so it now bows where it meets the bonnet sides. I would say don't cut the bonnet to match. If possible, get an experienced panel beater to straighten the rad shell. They may have ideas that we wouldn't thin...

Re: TA Body Tub Timber Construction Pictures
I feel your pain; especially with the "bull horns" . I had to admit defeat and realise that the steel brace would not fit the new body. At first I left it with a blacksmith but he gave it up as a bad job. Eventually, I made a template from some thinner steel then I cut the brace in half. It was easi...

Just one more thing. The spare wheel carrier is body colour... but what about the clamps? The rear cross member is presumably black... so are the clamps also black or are they body colour?

Re: TA Body Tub Timber Construction Pictures
Hello Bob. I would just like to echo what Mick has just said. I have been fooling around with Ash frames for many years and have come to realise that you can't take anything for granted. Usually, I find, it is easier to make something a bit smaller by shaving some off than trying to make it bigger b...

Re: Spare wheel carrier
Thanks Rob. I have done the tank and straps so now Just the spare wheel holder in body colour to complete the back of the car.
I have had to order a new spinner assembly. It is fortunate that we can get such things for our cars but they are expensive!

Re: Spot Lights
Don't forget it might be a problem with your switch. I wouldn't be happy with a high amperage going through an old switch on a wooden dashboard with fabric covered wiring. That is why I have added relays to all my switched circuits. BTW, normal relays can emit high voltage spikes that can damage sen...
