Re: TC Bonnet Realignment "In Situ"

Hello Rob - here's a note about bonnet fitting from your "resident historian" . . . Yes, side bonnet panels were often trimmed on the production line. This actually started with the building of the vintage MGs - the 14/40, 18/80, and the first Midget, the M type in 1929. Prewar, and for the first se...

Re: Grille Shell Lacing

Rob, I like the look of lacing but tend to stay with originality - all the factory photos I've ever seen showing this piece show rubber. Be aware that the fabric type tends to abrade the bonnet paint where it contacts the bonnet over time. But wither will work . . . And a 1949 factory photo is attac...

Re: Grille Shell Lacing

All parts lists and build specifications (or, Spec 259 for TC) list rubber for the radiator shell buffer.
Factory photos of the period support this.

Re: TA Body Tub Timber Construction Pictures

Duncan described the hinge location for the side curtain compartment door. The door fits across to the edges of the compartment sides, but doesn't extend past the plywood on each side. The battens on the outside edges of these sides are used to screw the filler piece in place. Meanwhile, the cutout ...

Clip on the front engine mounting plate, held in place by one of the bolts attaching the plate to the block, on the carb side, lower area, holds the carb overflow pipe ends in place.
Part number CL070 at From the Frame Up. The clip offered at Moss Motors is incorrect.

Here's how overflow pipes were done originally on TCs. This is on TC0279, one of mine.

Re: What's it like to live with a MGTC?

Hello Dean, from Indiana! I've been pretty much a lifelong TC enthusiast; currently in my care are 3 TCs (and other MGs). I restore them to high originality detail and superb quality, then like to drive them to develop a really nice patina. I consider myself pretty knowledgeable about TCs and how th...

Re: TA Body Tub Timber Construction Pictures

Rob, the back section of TA and very early TC body wood is different than later TC; you've already figured that out. There's a bit of sanding to shape the ends of the backboard to contour involved. I may have an extra new side curtain compartment for you, need to check when I get home next week (yes...

Re: 1937 TA hood

Can't speak for a Robbins hood, but the TA and TC hoods are virtually identical in size and shape. I've made a lot of them.
The shape on the rear bottom of the hoods for very early TAs is a bit different.

Re: TB Trim-Side Screen Strap(s)

Tim - the side curtain storage box door had a strap on each side of the door, centered midway up, to hold the door closed. Strap was same size as used on TC, with a LTD snap and stud as the closing hardware.

Ray - 2 holes in rear hood bow - #4BA x1" slotted countersunk brass screw with nuts and cup washer used here. Fastens the bow, webbing strip, and hood together. Screw goes through hood right at the intersection of the seams - see photo. The cup washer had a rubber sealing grommet underneath it. 2 ho...

From what I can tell from looking at factory photos, rubber at top ends where the strap turns 90 degrees to attach to the body, and ends on the bottom where the strap no longer contacts the tank.

Easy to make a good wiper wire with two single strand wires encased in gray heat shrink tubing.

If you use a DR2 wiper motor on the scuttle, how are you going to fold the windscreen down?

Re: gauge of TC panels

Spec 259 is the list of all parts comprising a TC. Pretty thorough, it's a purchasing and costing department reference.
Hard to sort through but once you have an understanding of it Spec 259 becomes a valuable reference.

Ray, Spec 259 lists the majority of body sheet metal as 20swg, silver finish sheet, both auto body normal and auto body bending type.
Others may be able to comment on what those details will mean to you.

Originally attached with wood screws - they are listed in Spec 259.
As others replied, rubber goes to the bottom. Here is a photo from TC0273; the vertical rubber strips had never been removed.

Perhaps my research skills have slipped Duncan, but I can find no reference as to different green interior colors in either of Clausager's books "The Original MG T Series, 1989, long by crossword puzzle lap desk) and his updated publication Factory-Original MG T-Series, 2019. Would you be so good as...
