Re: MGTF performance issue

Have you checked all the fuel lines to see if there is a blockage anywhere. I once had a tiny piece of rubber from a fuel line that was caught in the top of one of the SUs. The result was the me as you are having.

Re: TC steering wheel installation

There is also a snap ring on the column which should be off before trying to put the steering wheel back on. It should slide on easily and then the ring goes back on after installation. You have to take the centre plate off the steering wheel to access the snap ring.

non start when hot.

Came back from a long run Sunday (About 45 miles) in TC 7440 and backed into the driveway, shut the car off to open the garage door and empty the car of jackets and other gear. Got back in the car and it would not start. Pushed it into the garage and tried again, nothing. About fifteen minutes later...

Re: Aluminum Instrument Panel?

Yes! A good friend made one for his td in exactly the same shape as the original but was able to szqyeeze ib a few more items. I don't recall what they were. He made it out of about 3/16" aluminum and gave it an engine turn finish. It looked quite nice. He is gone but the car was TC 5050 if you coul...

Re: MG TC starting problem

Rotors, especially later one, are known to fail. Try a new one and look in your magazines etc. for one of the "red" bakalite rotors. Better quality. Also try a new coil I have had these go bad a few times over the last 54 years. Sometimes the car will start cold but go bad when warm. This is a sign ...

Re: What`s missing?

Most likely a bracket for a spare can of oil. Duckhams came in the bottle type cans and this is likely what it was for. This was a period accessory not a factory item. There were also sparkplug holders and trouble lights and others.

All of the TCs I have worked on (many) all had the angle piece you are referring to. If the floorboards have been replaced thy could have been left off.

Re: TC identification

The TC gearbox should bolt right up to the TD block. I have a spare TD block and have used it from time to time. The engine in the car now is a TF 1500 xpeg block and the gearbox also bolts right up. Yes you have to pull timing gears and change the front bearer plate on either TD or TF1500 block. I ...

Re: MG T Type Gearboxes

The TC, TD, TF Gearboxes are interchangeable as far as bolting up to the back of the block. The thing you have to watch out for is the ring gear on the flywheel. The TC, TD, TF starters are different and the right flywheel gear has to be with the right starter. Without looking it up it is the flywhe...

TC 5768

I was talking to an old friend recently and we were discussing a trip we took in 1968 in his TC. I asked him if he had any idea of where his car is now. He did not and I thought it would be interesting to see if any members on the list could help. His car was TC5768 and was last known in the Buffalo...

Re: TC Help!

Unless someone has rewired the car the ignition must be on for the brake lights to work. Otherwise look for a bad ground. Try grounding the headlight bucket with another wire to a good ground.

Re: Front tire shimmies

All ot the items mentioned should be checked but eventually you should also check your toe in. I believe the brown book lists the toe in a 3/16. Make up some sort of measuring device and check and then roll the car a few feet forward and then back to check again. If your wheels have any "wobble" thi...

Re: Hub to half shaft weld broken

R. Michell is right. There could be more damage than first seen. There is a bushing pressed into the back axle that the axle shaft runs in that could be damaged as well as the bearing carrier. Be sure to check the bearing carrier and big bearing that no damage has happened. The bearing should be a p...

Re: Hub to half shaft weld broken

I purchased mine from Bob Grunau in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada but I believe they are available elsewhere. You could get by with a used unit for a bit but after fussing with it for some time before I knew the true solution, I would still go with the new hubs and shafts. Best of luck, beautiful car!

Re: Hub to half sheet weld broken

It looks to me that some previous owner has welded the halfshaft (axle) to the hub and now the weld has broken. The oil comes through the splines on the halfshaft into the hub because the halfshaft and hub are both worn which is why you get wobble and the reason for welding it in the first place. I ...

Re: TC overheating a repeating topic, sorry!

There was a tech article in the Sacred Octagon about ten or fifteen years ago about clogged water passages on the carburetor side of the block. If I recall you had to take out the freeze plugs on the boss that is just under the carbs on the block. With some sort of wire or ice pick of some sort ther...

Re: TC Pedal shaft removal

When you do get it apart you might think about installing grease fittings on the pedals whee the shaft passes through. Drill and tap the pedal and then a small hole in the bushing. I did this with my car and just give them a quick shot when ever I grease the car.
