fixing new hood

I notice the wooden rail across the front of my hood frame is made of oak. Anyone know if this is as original, or is ash (or any other wood) preferable?

Tom, thanks for that intro. I have met Digby Elliott and agreed he will sort the problem. The gearbox was extremely worn and not easily repairable. Good contact, especially as he is only 20 miles away from me !!

TC gearbox advice needed

My TC gearbox is badly worn on the selector fork between 3rd and 4th gear attached to the sliding dog underneath and there is a lot of play. I am told there are no spares for TC boxes, any advice or help on trying to source parts for this problem or repairing the worn bits, or on the subject of fitt...
