Re: TC EXU Mirror

Lou, you have not taken it apart all the way. There should be a sort of ball and socket joint inside. Maybe it needs a light application of grease? These do operate a bit on wishful thinking, and tend to be a bit difficult to deal with as far as adjustment. Tightening it too much will lock it in pla...

Re: carb balancing

I must be explaining myself very poorly. Next time you have a car that you know (already figured out) the throttle shaft is causing a vacuum leak, or that you know the carbs intake gasket is leaking, try the floating ball Uni-syn and you will see what I am talking about. Of course there are other wa...

Re: carb balancing

Steve, I am saying the old standard floating ball Uni-syn is useful for spotting vacuum leaks you might not be aware are there. As in a vacuum leak at throttle spindles or gasket. Otherwise the floating ball works great. Not sure if the snail type can make the same claim of acting up in a characteri...

Re: carb balancing

The erratic readings on the floating ball uni-syn usually indicate a vacuum leak somewhere.

Re: carb balancing

Gunson carb balancer looks difficult to use. https://www.gunsonshop.com/contents/en-us/p227_G4053_Gunson_Carbalancer.html I agree with Rob on the utility of the Uni-syn (floating ball). Once you get the gate set to your flow range, it is simple to go between the two carbs to get perfect balance. htt...

Re: TC Front End Improvements-Handling

FWIW-- from what I have observed, the ball attached to the steering drop arm that goes into the drag link end, wears dramatically faster than the other balls. Too bad places like Moss never seem to have them (drop arm ball) in stock. FTFU has them in stock for $70 (ST280).

Ed-
Back when almost everybody was racing them, either in stock street form or modified racing form. Much quicker steering with the BC steering box.

Re: TC Front End Improvements-Handling

When setting up the BC box, an often encountered problem is with aftermarket worms that do not come through Bob G in Canada. The defective worms are not cut correctly and seem to make it impossible to do the top plate shim adjustment for center steer drag (top of sector shaft should rub slightly aga...

Re: Correct MG TC Dash Screws

Jay, feel free to name the supplier. The cup washer for the rexine dash are not the original contour. The outer edge is too steep on the ones you received for rexine. Pics below of known original washer. Outside dia. is 0.56 inch.

Re: Regulator getting hot

If not adjustment, it sort of sounds like it could be poor grounding. Either where the battery connects to ground, or the wire (or wires) used to ground the regulator at connection "E" and wherever you terminated that wire(s) on the chassis. If it was the cutout points sticking shut on a car with ba...

Re: Regulator getting hot

Mark- Keep in mind there were several bobbin designs over the years, and that is just on the real Lucas boxes. Between the info sources available online you should be able to get the correct settings for whatever specific design you have. I rigged up an old laptop power supply I had not thrown out, ...

Re: TC Front End Improvements-Handling

Steve, you don't like the visuals on either of the radials? The American Classic's are of a pretty conventional appearance and overall diameter, while the Bridgestones are somewhat lowish profile and a smaller overall diameter and with a flat tread. I do know that running smaller overall diameter ti...

Re: TC Front End Improvements-Handling

Thanks for posting the pic Charlie. Also, Rob Reilly says in another thread that the section width of a mounted and inflated American Classic radial in the model A size 475/500-19 is 5 inches even. The model A size tires I run have a section width of 5.2 inch and barely fit without scraping the drip...

Re: TC Forever More Tub Frame Modification and Tub Build

I am just speaking of encapsulation of wood from what I have seen and what others have said over the years. On the T-types specifically, a common failure point for such strategy is the main wood structural rail that runs along the chassis. At some point the wood rail "coating" gets roughed up by vib...

Re: TC Front End Improvements-Handling

Ray- Thank you for being specific about why you went with the VW steering. Makes complete sense. I agree the Radial tire is a glamorous idea. My concern is fitment on the rear axle. Width is very limited on the TC, and the (bias ply) Model A tires I am currently running just barely fit. Getting the ...

Re: TC Front End Improvements-Handling

The front hubs on a TC are maintenance/wear items, like tires or kingpin bushings. They wear out-- and cannot be fixed or repaired, no matter what anyone might tell you. For some reason people think the hubs are not very important, but if they are not in excellent shape you will never ever get the c...

Re: TC Forever More Tub Frame Modification

Robj- Attempting to encapsulate the wood with epoxy or some other non permeable sealant has certainly been tried before. Wooden boats use that strategy because they must. Morgan started using Cuprinol preservative in 1986, which allows the wood to breathe. Probably about as good a comprimise as you ...
