Re: Ford T-9 transmission fluid

It appears that the T9 requires a GL-4 gear oil, not GL-5. I am in Australia so not much help re US supply but Redline MT-90 75W90 GL-4 GEAR OIL is probably available (at a price!). There would be cheaper equivalents I would guess.

Re: Fitting Half shafts into the Diff

Are you sure you are not just confirming that the differential is working? It is common for only one wheel to turn if you rotate the prop shaft with both rear wheels off the ground. If this is what occurs then suggest you chock the wheel that turns and now see if the other one turns when you rotate ...

Re: MG TA Electrics

I would have hoped that those more expert would have replied. If the 11 volts is at revs then you definitely have a charging problem. Lucas published a very logical troubleshooting sequence for this, e.g. http://mgaguru.com/mgtech/books/pdf/Lucas_Generator_and_Control_Box_Tests.pdf Follow the early ...

Re: Polarity of Ignition Coil

You could well be right Steve. However the article does make a definitive statement about CB and SW on a positive earth car. Whether this is an overconfident statement is a moot point.

I thought the addendum test with the LED involved may have been an addition.

Re: Ignition and fuel warning lamps

Ian, bulb is/was 2.5 volt. That is not an error. Resistance wire around the holder is/was in series with the bulb. I am not an electrical expert but I believe that what your auto electrician says will work but would presumably then need a 12v bulb. However it is a moot point as to whether that mod i...

Re: Ignition and fuel warning lamps

Suggest you read this forum (my contribution is Post #26 and the link is to save me typing it out again). The resistor in series with these lamps is not to prevent plastic melting or to dull the bulb. https://www.mgexp.com/phorum/read.php?46,3816342,page=2

Re: Old topic on tub construction but new for me

I too built a body from bits. It appears that your tub is sitting too far forward. The rear of the outrigger should be just forward of the wheel arch (as you have guessed). What is determining the fore/aft location of the tub? As was discussed in a recent post, I found - as had the poster - that whe...

Re: MG TC starting problem

What do you mean by "not getting a spark at the plugs"? Is this with a plug removed and laying on a metal part of the engine? To track down the problem a little more, suggest take off distributor cap and remove high tension (centre) lead from it. Rotate engine by hand until points are closed. Turn o...

Thanks. Now my question is where is this fuse block and where is it getting its power from?

Re: Pertronix - motor will not stop running when key tunred

Sorry but I am still not clear on what you did with the 9v battery. You say you disconnected the wire from the ign switch to the coil. With a Pertronix on a positive earth car I did not think any such wire existed. Isn't the Ignitor module powered from the ign switch? And then the Ignitor module con...

Re: Pertronix - motor will not stop running when key tunred

Not sure if I follow what you did. Did you disconnect a wire that was running from the ignition switch to the Pertronix and connect it to one terminal of a 9V battery and the other terminal via a test light to chassis ground? There is a path to ground from the ignition switch via the ign warning lig...

Re: Pertronix - motor will not stop running when key tunred

Are you using a standard ignition warning light set up - 2.5?v bulb plus resistance in series at the bulb holder? If more than "design" current is passing from the generator back through the ignition switch to the battery, then it can continue to power the LT side of the coil after the ign switch is...

Re: Door trim piping

Ian, TCs Forever is not the book for trim IMHO. I made all my own upholstery and I mainly just Googled for trim photos on the internet. You will find lots of them, particularly from cars for sale. But look at quite a few as not all are correct. Yes, at the rear of the door the piping abuts hard agai...

Franz, if you wish to learn more on the oil questions you ask you may consider the book Praxishandbuch Öl. However I have to declare an interest, being the author. Google the title plus my name, Richard Michell. The English version is titled 'Which Oil?' All care, no responsibility!

Re: air filter

As Steve says, it was quite common practice - e.g.Porsche 912 - but I have never understood it. Although the amount of oil should be small it is still blow-by - combustion products. It will surely reduce the amount of oxygen in the inlet air on that carburettor.

Sorry, can't help you with the UK. As has been said, any glass company can do it by using laminated glass as it can be cut simply. Re: TC Tub Rebuild Thread and Questions

I have built only one TC. I do not believe that you require a 1/4 inch gap at the rear of the doors. That is about the clearance you need at the front, particularly, and at the bottom. The "flanges" on these two edges hide the gap but there is no "flange" on the rearmost edge. As you have found, the...

Mitch, I have had my TC up on stands for the past couple of days, chasing some oil leaks from the diff. Lowered it to the ground and then read your post! To the best of my ability with very difficult access, I got 122cm (44 inches) in situ. So i am guessing it is the 43" compressed one. If no-one el...

Re: Front scuttle capping

I think Peter is right. Your problem is that the scuttle has been heavily modified. Here are two photos of mine (ignore the paint chips). The scuttle line is close to straight, sloping up just a little near the cockpit. Re the rear, the door height should match the body. Both have the same "rolled" ...
