Re: Radiator Recore Near Nottingham, UK

Hi Steve,

Thanks for the tip. I'll give them a call. Would you mind letting me know what they charged? If you don't want to share that information widely, perhaps you could message me.

Radiator Recore Near Nottingham, UK

As per the title. I need to have my TC radiator recored. Does anyone have experience of any companies near to Nottingham UK. I have a price from Mansfield Radiators, but would like a second opinion. BTW, not sure how many people look at things under 'swap meet' section, but I'm also after a radiator...

Wanted - TC/TD radiator shell/grille

As per the title, I'm looking for a replacement TC or TD radiator shell. As these are expensive parts, I'm not prepared to buy without inspection (fingers burnt in the past), so it would need to be within a day round trip from Nottingham (or within a reasonable radius of Newcastle), UK. I guess that...

Re: TC Grille/Shell Fitting

I know that I won't be happy with a curved edge, but it sometimes needs someone else to say it as well. This morning I had a go a straightening one of the edges by drilling some holes in a straight metal bar and then bolting the edge of the grille to it. It does seem to work without cracking the chr...

TC Grille/Shell Fitting

I seem to have been having endless problems with the chrome radiator shell/grille. First of all I discovered the one that came with the car was beyond repair. Next, I've noticed that this other really nicely chromed one (not by me) that I have has a curve in the edges where the side bonnet edges mee...

Re: TC Carburettor Overflow Pipe

Thanks, that's really helpful. Those pictures have also reminded me that I need to polish the suction chamber pots. By the way, my pistons didn't have springs with them but I've read conflicting information about whether they are needed or whether gravity to drop the pistons back to the closed posit...

TC Carburettor Overflow Pipe

I'm now restoring my SU carbs. For some reason, the fuel overflow pipes have been cut very short. What are the correct lengths of these pipes please and does anyone have a picture of the original routing as there seems to be a lot of variation. By the way, when I stripped the carbs down for inspecti...

Re: TC Radiator Shell Wanted

I would be happy with a TD one as I'm not that bothered about 100% period originality. I notice that they come up a little more often, but I'm not keen on the ones on e-bay at the moment so I'll bide my time.

Re: TC Radiator Shell Wanted

Yes, I spotted that one. The opinion from an expert restorer is that it's essentially scrap for bits to cut out and therefore worth about £50. I'll keep looking.

TC Radiator Shell Wanted

I received the unwanted news the other day that my TC radiator shell is beyond economic repair. Does anyone have one that they want to sell? If the price is right, I'm happy to have it rechromed, but it needs to be in day trip distance from Nottingham, UK so that I can inspect as I've previously had...

MGTC Radiator Shell Repair (UK)

I've not been active on here for a while as I've been leading a project to build a planetarium from a 1886 Victorian underground reservoir and this has taken up all of my time (off topic, but if anyone would like to see some images of our plans, let me know). Now that we have a contractor on site an...

Re: Front Wing Fitting to Body - TC

Thanks Ray, I might well pop across one day. I was doing more trial fitting yesterday and I think that my front wings have a bit to much twist in them. When I apply a bit of manual force to them I can get a decent fit but they will need some work to get the correct twist to hold as it's not right th...

Front Wing Fitting to Body - TC

After a busy summer doing other things where I've not had much time in the garage, I've finally gotten around to working on the front wings. One in particular was in a shocking condition, with the trailing edge being made from what looks like an old baking tray that had been riveted in place and cov...

Re: MGTC wiring loom

By process of elimination I concluded that the blue wire runs from the Ignition to the Horn/Dip switch. Not sure why it is routed through the main loom, rather than being part of the dash loom, but it is. In the words of Sherlock Holmes "when you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, how...

Re: Dash wiring loom

Ray - mine didn't have the blue wire either. I think that it's standard practice to have that one outside of the loom. In fact there were a few other wires that I needed in various places as I plan to install extra connector blocks between the dash and the main loom to make for easy removal. As ment...

Re: Dash wiring loom

Did the dash loom come in a separate sealed packet. If so, did it have a four digit serial number on it - you can search this on the Autosparks website.

As Chris says, the other loom is for the rear lights and fits at the rear chassis. I have one as well, but I have not worked out how it fits yet.

Re: Dash wiring loom

It took me a while to work mine out, but some time at the kitchen table with a multi meter helped. There are several short lengths of wire of the same colour that connect together in series via the panel lights, the effect being that when you look at the loom on the table you see lots of ends of the...

I know that I shouldn't mock as people take originality very seriously, but this discussion reminds me of a very funny episode of Blackadder. Not sure if it made it to the US though.

Re: Rear wing alignment.

Hi Ray, This is one of the most difficult aspects of the build to get right. This is where I eventually got to with mine. I decided that the critical point was the level of the rear tips with respect to the chassis and the line where they meet the body tub. How high the front of the wing is up from ...

Re: Best sources for TC interior kits

I recently took delivery of a complete bespoke TC interior by these people. They also supply standard kits. The quality of workmanship is second to none. Not cheap! You might think that they are not cheap, but it depends on what you're buying. Their seat foam is a fraction of the price of that from...
