Re: Overhead Cam Midgets Versus T-Types
I have always felt that the TC is the most mechanically-sophisticated and advanced pre-war MG cars, and is closer to a TD that a PA. The driving experience, mechanical sophistication, reliability, parts supply and general comfort of any other pre-war MG are all going to be less than a TC. I liken a ...

Re: What's it like to live with a MGTC?
A Morris Minor pumpkin (4.55 vs. 5.125) in a TC , a front suspension and steering system correctly overhauled and adjusted, up-graded fear axle seals, and TLS brake mods will go a long way to making every sort of driving more enjoyable and relaxed in a TC, while still retaining all the TC's characte...

Re: Gearbox cluster shaft locking bolt leak
There is no stress on the bolt, so it can be safely be removed. It is a long bolt, so I would wrap the threads with teflon tape to stanch the drip

Re: Heat soak/Vapour lock - advice please
I would very definitely follow Steve's advice about the distributor and timing. No more than 32 degrees at full advance. My recommendation would be to send out the distributor to be rebuilt by your Distributor Dr. You will be surprised how much better the car runs afterwards. An XPAG should not over...

Re: TC bonnet needed
Ed - thank you SO for your reply; yes, I am interested. I feel I owe the buyer of my unrestored TC a bonnet. As for fit, I think the bonnet is the one part that was custom fit to each car. It may be apocryphal, but I remember hearing there was a man near the end of some assembly-line (T-series? Morg...

TC bonnet needed
I sold a '47 TC a while ago without a bonnet, thinking I had one. I don't seem to, and feel I must find one to provide - it's my responsibility. All help appreciated.

I believe I still have an NOS peg and worm, that came with a TC many years ago. I'm happy to go dig them out and compare them, if there is interest.

Re: Broken Box Control LUCAS RF95/2 to LUCASRF 95/3
95/2 was the original-style 9-post box used on the TC and TD up to about car TD9000, and was also used on many other British cars of the time. 106/1 was the later 5-post box. I don't know what the difference between the 95/2 and /3 is, but I do remember seeing that Holden in the UK sold 95/3 as a re...

Re: Weight of TA rolling chassis
As I remember, a complete TC weighs in at under 1800#, and the body tub without interior I would guess is about 225. The engine and trans weigh about 300#, So I would think you would have no problem with an 1100# capacity trailer, as long as the car is vigorously strapped down. NOTE: these are rough...

Re: Low Oil Pressure
10# at idle is not great, but not impossible. What do you have when running on the road? The old saw is 10# per 1,000RPM. While the pump is with Butch Taras being rebuilt (mgyowner@yahoo.com), pull the rocker gear, the other most likely cause of low oil pressure. The rocker shaft wears on the unders...

Re: timing light
Since the various different distributors used in T-types have mechanical weights that start to advance as low as a few hundred RPM's, it is most accurate to check total advance at the other end with the timing light Steve notes above - no more than 32 degrees at full advance, 3,500 RPM. A worn distr...

Re: Gearbox ID 1948 TC
TC gearboxes are MUCH stronger than TD/TF boxes, such that racers in the 50's would install TC boxes in their racing TD's. I've never heard of a single TD box installed in a TC; that would be a step backwards.

Re: to block or not to block rocker hole that is the question
Havr you considered having your rocker apparatus professionally re-done? Rocker Arm Specialists does an excellent job: they clean everything, build-up the rocker tips with Stellite material and re-grind them back to standard profile, they have an original shaft (nothing from Overseas) hard-chromed a...

Re: 1946 TC valve clatter question
Agree with Steve - if the engine in your car has EVER been rebuilt, is most likely to have the .012 cam in place. Your valve cover is not original to the car if it heralds a .012" setting. I would also adjust your brakes, to be sure nothing is dragging. If your car is still a slug, I would send your...

If you go to mintylamb, you can compare three different SU needles at a time. In this case, you can see how close the three needles cited above, really are, station by station.

Contact my friend Casey who just bought an un-restored '49 TC that has been off the road for many years, and still retains factory upholstery. You could see a detail that could be useful.
