Re: TC gearbox colour
Gearbox color Originally it varied. The very early cars were a dark red (spot on to MG Damask Red). Factory photos show gearboxes painted same color as the engine; it’s often appeared to me that the engine and gearbox were painted as a unit after assembly. I’ve also seen black original paint. If it’...

Re: TA Muffler Hanger
Are these part of the original hanger? NOPE Are they worth saving as is, should I add a length of steel to each one and make them as original, or should I grind them off? Get rid of them - grind them off. What have others done for a muffler hanger on this bar? Nothing. Downpipe in front of the muffl...
Re: MGTC Hood
Ray, hoods were fitted in a production method on TCs, TDs, and TFs. The hoods were actually attached to the hood frames at Coventry Hood & Side Curtain Company, then delivered to Morris Bodies Branch for installation onto the body tubs. I believe, but don’t know for sure, the sequence of steps were:...

Re: TA Original Paint Colors
Rob, there are no records existing that I am aware of recording how many and what TA, TB, TC, or TDs were painted what color. What you have here is likely original paint sample on your TA. I believe, but don't know for sure, that most if not all TAs had black weather equipment. Most common interior ...

Re: Amal Latch Painted?
Also Tim, the brackets the latches catch on were originally painted black. Screw heads attaching catch assembly to the bonnet sides were usually hand painted body color in finishing, though they were sometimes made seed. And - I’ve acquired a couple full sets of original TB shocks if you or anyone e...

Re: Amal Latch Painted?
Tim, the latches were nickel plated (not chrome) originally. Do them that way, use a non-sticky lubricant, and they will be correct and work smoothly for years.

Re: shiny body bolts
Based on factory photos and my knowledge, the only exterior chromed assembly nuts and bolts are are the acorn nuts for the fuel tank straps and the acorn nuts holding the fuel tank end panels on. This doesn't include the windscreen hardware (all chrome). Splash apron bolt heads and washers and the h...

Factory photos show:
TB and early TCs have the black socket on the right. Mid to late TCs have the black socket on the left.

TA and TC tubs on EBay UK
if you are in or near the U.K. and in need of TA or TC tubs, tub parts, and TA bulkheads there are a couple new listings on EBay for them. Looks like doors, scuttle, cross braces, and bulkheads are good. There is also a TA tub with rear wings, petrol tank, and bonnet panels as a set. Could be good s...

Re: Hand brake
First, remove the cables and try rotating the mechanism to see how stiff it is. There are a pair of bushings at the ends of the shaft that float in holder plates bolted to the chassis rails. These are likely your binding points. Try washing them out with a lightweight lubricant, perhaps a spray can ...

Re: TC seat dilemma
Vinide (correctly spelled Vynide as a trade name), is not the same as the trade name produce Rexine. Rexine is a linseed oil based finish on woven cotton fabric, something in the USA we called oilcloth when I was a kid. Rexine was used for automotive interior upholstery because it was an attractive ...

Re: TC seat dilemma
Seat bottom plywood shape changed, as did the interior cushion and the front inner ramp. The change happened about TC2000 (after the first 1,800 bodies) not "Chassis No. 5000: as NTG publishes. The changes were: Plywood bottom air holes changed from circular to oval slots. Outer rear corner stepped ...

Re: TC seat dilemma
The spring cases are different for an early type seatback and a late type springback. The plywood back is the same size, but the battens attached to it are different.
And as you noted, the covering is different.

Re: coach trimmer
Duncan, I would be interested in seeing photo documentation of this second green. I have never seen a green different than the standard Apple Green used in TA through late TD, or MMM cars. This color started in 1931, as did Regency Red.
Looking forward to seeing photos.

Re: colour of the inside of battery box
I can’t speak for the other 9,998 MGs, but: TC0279 and TC5147, both deep flute bulkhead cars originally had flat black paint on the inside of the battery box. The inside of the toolboxes (underneath the felt) was same color as the bulkhead. Lids were same color as the bulkheads (Lighter green/gray (...

Re: sill plates TC
Sill plates were probably on all TCs. The tub wood under the doors on TC0273 had broken off screws of the correct size and location for sill plates, and TC0279 had them when I acquired it and appeared never to have been removed. They were plain with no engraving.

TC Hardware List
Here is a pretty complete list of all the hardware used by MG in assembling a TC. This is compiled from Specification 259, the document from Morris Motors that was the 'parts list' for manufacturing. The list does not include hardware for preassembled sections that were delivered to MG complete - en...
