Re: TC Forever More Tub Frame Modification and Tub Build
I can report that POR15 is indeed tough as nails. But you have to follow the instructions religiously or it will fail in spectacular fashion. For wood, I didn't do anything special other than make sure there was absolutely no oil or other contaminants in the grain before painting. I started with bra...

Re: oil filter canister
As far as I know the original oil filter was a stamped steel unit. It looked like the one pictured below, although I can't remember the original brand and color offhand. (Photo from Sports & Classics website) I've never seen a one-piece aluminum unit like the one above. In the good old days, Moss so...

Re: TC Front End Improvements-Handling
Consensus? Good luck! My thoughts... I don't feel that an anti-roll bar is needed or worth the effort. TCs tend to corner very flat already and solid axles have a fixed camber. Roll bars seem to be much more useful on IFS cars where they can help control the two sides individually. The rose/he...

Re: TC Forever More Tub Frame Modification
I haven't tried it on body wood, but I coated my floorboards with POR15 and the durability has been incredible. It took a couple coats to get it really soaked in, as the stuff is really thin so it goes right into the grain like a sponge. It does have good flexibility so I suspect it would work well ...

One may be older than the other, or the steel has lost its temper.

Re: TC Bonnet Realignment "In Situ"
It might just be a matter of worn or incorrect rubber at the rear. If this is the case, I would expect the front and rear lines to both be wider at the top, and possibly overlapping the lower front corners with the grill shell.

Re: Radiator plumbing
Hi Dave,
I don't see why you couldn't do that. Many people run with no thermostat at all, so having a small hole would not be detrimental to the engine's ability to warm up properly. I've seen more than one TC with the bypass circuit eliminated.

Re: TC Forever More Tub Frame Modification
I haven't done any of the mods Mike discusses, mainly because I've never had the desire to take a running car to bits. But I would say that if he recommends the modifications, and you plan to really drive the car, then I would seriously consider whatever he has to say. He has more miles on his TC th...

Funny, just the other day I ran into this issue on a TC owned by a guy for the past 40 years. The wheel does not tighten fully even with the spinner fully tightened

Are you sure yours can't be rebuilt? Generally speaking, these things never truly wear out. It might just need new bushings and brushes.

I haven't used them but I don't see any red flags. They don't seem to carry much though.
EDIT: A web search showed two very dissatisfied customers who got cheap knockoff parts instead of the parts they ordered. I didn't find anything else whether positive or negative.

I just ran into a TC the other day with the same thing - the bracket was blocking one of the windscreen stanchion screws. But only on one side. Odd.

Re: Accuracy of timber measurements in TC's Forever
Hi Rob, I think the first issue is that everyone has used a different car for their initial measurements. I would definitely expect some variation from one car to another, although the numbers you quote seem a bit too much. If it were me, and I were confident the metal was original and/or correct, t...

Re: Clock Setting Knob
I wonder if a better idea would be to thread the shaft, then thread the knob on with a locknut above it. Or maybe the shaft is too thin to cut threads into without making it even weaker. I haven't seen the shaft since the tach was out.

Re: Clock Setting Knob
Every tach I have here is missing the knob so I was hoping someone else would chime in. Here's a photo of the area on my TC, which I assume is the same as TA. The distance from the bottom of the clock to the bottom edge of the dash (through the hole where the knob goes) is just over 1/2". Hopefully ...

That's a real shame. I'm not sure that will straighten out without damaging the chrome. But I don't think you'll be happy with the fit either.

Re: Grille Shell Lacing
I would assume (dangerous I know) that it would be the same as the rest of the pre-war cars. The SA parts book does specify "rubber lacing" so whatever the SA had, I'm betting the TA had. I also suspect that if it were rubber coated canvas, the lacing would look just like solid rubber. One thing tha...
