Re: Rebuilding TC5560

Never heard of wrapping the pipe pushing the heat back up into the head or pushing both ways, but I'll ask around some of the drivers who race out at the speedway. I've seen pipes wrapped and not wrapped but never gave it a thought as to the whys or why not's on their cars! I still think the consens...

Re: TC steering box

Pretty much what I thought on your question Steve: Agreed on the "wait and see" but the steering box isn't the only factor in the equation. I have renewed the tie rod and drag link ends as well plus am incorporating the pan hard kit from Roger Furneaux and renewing the kingpins as well. New tapered ...

Re: TC steering box

OK Steve, thanks.. I've got the pinion shaft assembly assembled and the bearing pre-load set to 7 in lbs. Marked the castellated nut so that on final ass'y I get the same setting. I have the input flange modified machined and the Roger Furneaux modern lip seal kit installed. Crown wheel components a...

Re: TC steering box

Car is non-op at present Steve, Hip deep into a frame off restoration. Just finishing the differential this week. I'm not sure I know what you mean by lost motion on center. On my bench set-up I felt there was zero lost motion on the steering wheel after adjustment of the Tomkins nut. I observed the...

Re: Rebuilding TC5560

The manifold on my TD was ceramic coated and the down pipe was wrapped all the way down to almost where it met the muffler. As Steve S. says, it helps prevent vapor lock besides keeping the overall under bonnet heat down. Never heard of wrapping the exhaust pipe "pushing" heat back up into the engin...

Re: TC steering box

Martin Cooke at Abingdon Spares has them listed at $47 ea in stock. Doug Pelton has them as well plus Bob Grunau up in Canada probably does too. I just rebuilt my steering box and my units came from Doug I believe, could have been Moss, I forget which. I also incorporated the Tomkins adaptation plus...

Re: Fill level for Girling Dampers on TC

No Richard, I don't agree that apples and oranges are being discussed as in a total refill vs. a top-up! The total refill was never contested on the entrained air and the reason for it. The "top-up" is the base discussion. The rest of your statement is spot on except I don't think it necessary to ad...

Re: Fill level for Girling Dampers on TC

C'mon Norm!....... Steve and Peter are correct as was the direction of your earlier post headed in the normal leveling due to the oil self bleeding or being force bled as Steven said. Simply pouring today's refined oils into a container or system reservoir in the process of "topping up" does not and...

Re: Bolt Positions for MG TC stringer wood question

The through holes excepting the ones for running board mounting were all c'bored to accept a flat washer and hex head bolt Steve. No flat heads except on the wood screws coming in from the frame side. If you click on one of my pictures where the stringers are laying on the floor, it will open up int...

MGTC "BROWN BOOK" - original Jan 1954 Nuffield press issue

I have an original Nuffield Press printing (January 1954) of the Owners Instruction Manual - Brown Book. 105 pages. Includes wiring diagrams. Listed as used condition but it appears that it is shelf worn only and never used as an active reference book. Cover has slight smudge, lower left corner and ...

Re: Bolt Positions for MG TC stringer wood question

The following pics are of the frame rail without the timber clamped to it. The RED tape shows the positions of through bolts, NOTE: my car had a through hole on the elongated forth hole in the frame rail. The YELLOW tape with a BLACK taped "X" shows where flat head screws were used and came in from ...

Re: Bolt Positions for MG TC stringer wood question

I've fitted the old timbers to the frame rails on my body jig. The following pics show holes and hardware used on TC5141. Undoubtedly, the factory did not make every one of our cars the same but I believe my timbers to be original to the car. They are identical in hardware and positions used on both...

Re: Bolt Positions for MG TC stringer wood question

Steve: I have just recently remove the wood on my car and have new wood from Craig Seabrook. My main body stringers were in a state of partial dry rot but all intact and relatively solid. I will look on them and take some pictures for you as I believe them to be original to the car. So as not to clu...

Well, if you're going to get a brand new tank, you may as well cough up the few extra Benjamins' and get the stainless tank from Doug Pelton. No rust ever, then you can worry about something else!!!!

Re: TC ammeter wiring

My schematic shows the right hand terminal (B), (as you view it from the backside), to go directly to the starter terminal with a black with yellow tracer wire. The starter terminal is the one that has the negative battery lead on it. This should be a heavy wire as all the current feeding the input ...
