Re: TC rear axle oil leak onto brake shoes (yep, again .....
These rear axles can be made not to leak lube onto brake linings even without the NUTSEAL arrangement although it can be helpful in many instances. The splined hub must be very tight on the axle. The seal in the bottom of the carrier must be good and sealant must be applied to the bearing carrier fl...

Re: Moss seats for TC
Actually Norman tried to restore his seats and they didn't look too bad, but ultimately decided to replace. If you follow his blog, there are pictures of the work. All just depends upon how bad the seats are to start with.

Re: TC rear axle oil leak onto brake shoes (yep, again .....
A couple of thoughts for you; is the splined hub tight on the axle? I mean really really tight and not moving even slightly? I assume you have replaced the seal at the bottom of the bearing holder? If the nut seal is working there essentially should be no gear oil in that wheel bearing, typically gr...

Re: Moss seats for TC
I need to take exception , the pleats on my seats are properly sewn and do not look like a "flat pleat". I don't know anything about quality "not being what it used to be" as I bought this kit some years ago. I can also tell you that availability at that time from Collingburn was well out there. As ...

Re: Moss seats for TC
Tom, I put a Moss kit in TC2911 when I restored the car many years ago. Vehicle now in use for a good dozen years and almost 17,000 miles and the seats look just fine with some leather patina as expected.

Re: Hello and meet Gigi TC5510
A nice look, the black wheels work well with that combination of exterior and interior colors. As far as the Brooklands screens, I find that there is no need at all for goggles as the seating position is low enough that there seems to be plenty of wind blocking from them. My windshield is always fol...

Re: TC Tub Rebuild Thread and Questions
Stew,
Anything you have to do to achieve the fit of those doors the way you want them is fair game. Keep in mind that it is a good idea that when building a tub to have the engine and gearbox in the chassis and the chassis sitting on four wheels, not supported by stands.

Re: Primer paint for a long project
You know this might be justification to pick up a low cost spray gun and small compressor based on the price of the rattle can epoxy two pack you are considering. They are just invaluable for any type of restoration.

Re: Primer paint for a long project
I don't know what you have available over there, but typically real epoxy primer is a two part concoction, paint with activator and this requires a spray gun. Rattle can primer is likely not real epoxy. A lot depends upon what type of color coat you are going to use when you paint the car. If you ar...

Re: TC Radiator hose leaks
This is what old cars are about, get used to it. Take it apart and clean it up, gently wire brush the pieces, grease it up with anti seize and put it back together, it will be fine.

Re: TC identification
Boys, Boys, be nice! When you take an old car down to the bare frame to restore it, you pretty much destroy any originality that it had, but honestly TC2911 had very little to save in the first place. The matching number plate and MOT tag were just a little provenance that I wanted to remain with th...

Re: TC identification
Ah, if these cars could only talk and tell us of their lineage. TC2911 still has its original number plate and an MOT sticker on the windshield and a slightly later Ohio inspection sticker tells me about when it came to the U.S. I know a couple of the previous owners, but of course know nothing of i...

Duncan, the deflectors are removed as they are in the way of the new seal.

Re: Does this mean I have a bad piston ring?
Duncan, the Felpro seals that I have installed do not "lock" onto the top of the valve guide on a TC so likely do move around with the valve rather than wiping oil off, thus not preventing lubrication to the stem and guide. Now these as I recall were for small block Fords and perhaps other American ...

Re: TC Radiator hose leaks
Jeff, get a small wire wheel that you could stick on a drill and clean it out. As far as cleaning the water passages, I would take all the hoses off and stick a garden hose up top and flush till clear and that should give you sufficient pressure to clean this out. Don't worry about getting things we...

Re: TC Radiator hose leaks
Looks like the radiator and block need a serious flush. You might want to pull a hose off and see if you can flush all that out. Not to frighten, but look at the casting above that core plug you removed, that is not a crack is it?

Re: Does this mean I have a bad piston ring?
As I recall, and it has been awhile since I installed those seals, they do not firmly slide over the top of the valve stem and stay there blocking out all oil, fumes and such, but from what I have seen they do stop a fair amount of oil from dripping down the stem and guide into the cylinder.

Duncan, yes I have installed them about five years ago. I rather got tired of a blue cloud upon hot start up.

Re: Does this mean I have a bad piston ring?
Felpro part #70373, I believe this may be a standard Ford seal and are available from any parts source, probably not Moss. As far as Seafoam, not to dis Steve, but I am just not a believer and would not run it through my 70 year old engine. I am not sure what roll it is supposed to play in a TC engi...

Re: Does this mean I have a bad piston ring?
If the car runs well and doesn't use huge amounts of oil, I wouldn't worry about it, unless you drive it 10,000 miles a year. :) What you can do is install umbrella type valve seals on the valves which may keep some of the oil from running down the valve stems. This can be done without taking the he...
