Re: TC steering

Check the toe in, 1/4" for the TC.
I increased mine to 1/2" as specified for TA, and TB and the improvement was dramatic.

Re: Steering box rebuild

We are indeed lucky that we can whine about one supplier or another. Buying OEM parts on eBay has a risk factor in that they may really not be what they are represented to be and certainly retuning an item is hit or miss at best. When doing a restoration does one have to wait and wait till that odd ...

Re: Steering box rebuild

Some years ago when I restored TC2911 I spent thousands with Moss and found them very helpful. If I had a problem with an item they were always willing to take care of it. I often used a local fellow who was a Moss dealer and provided a nice discount on their items. Unfortunately he passed on and wh...

Re: Where does TD tach cable pass through firewall/bulkhead

The tach cable on a TC goes right through the firewall into a hole almost directly aft of the generator, but I don't know about the TD.
By the way that grill looks nice and period.

Re: Rebuilding TC5560

Bottom has 3 massive lead repairs and there is now an additional 5 wet spots. Also the outlet has been puttied up, but still leaking. The sides have been repaired and seem to be fine. Just not sure about the condition inside. Do not want to have rust in fuel lines and carbs for ever and a day. :? H...

Re: Rebuilding TC5560

Cover the wheel arches first. Now a hint for you, the covers that came in my Moss kit were fine but they are flat and I suspect this is the way most of them are made. The arches do have a curve to them, sort of three dimensional. If you try to glue the arches down they tend to wrinkle, tried this wi...

Re: Rebuilding TC5560

What does "basically beyond repair" mean? What is leaking exactly? The typical leaks from the bottom of these tanks are from the spot welds that hold the brackets allowing the tank to sit on the frame rails, not a rusted out tank. The spot welds fatigue and leak, this is easily fixed by drilling out...

Re: door striker plate.

Make sure also your hinges are not sloppy and allow the doors to close the same way each time. Frankly these are old wooden cars and the only way to get things to work properly is to shim each locking mechanism to engage the wedge at the proper point. No two cars will be alike as they will each requ...

Re: Brake Failure

Norman, no disagreement here, what you describe is pretty typical of a system with a leak somewhere and my goal would be to fix it. A TC is no different than any other system and when functioning properly the peddle should be hard and not require much movement to actuate the brakes.

Re: Brake Failure

Duncan, I would have to disagree with that last statement. I have not touched my Morgan's hydraulic system, rebuilt and filled with silicone fluid in about twenty years, I know, I know it should have the brake fluid flushed by now. In any case it works just fine and exhibits no bad behavior at all. ...

Re: Brake Failure

Suggest you peel back the rubber boots at each end of the cylinder to see if there is any seepage at that point. Those cylinders are fairly stout material and I might suspect a leaking rubber cup rather than a failure of any other sort.

Re: TD... want to modify it for Calif Rally events - help?

Go out to British Pathe, http://www.britishpathe.com/ and search on Monte Carlo Rally and look for videos of the early 50's to see what cars competing in those days actually looked like. Generally unmodified with additional front lamps and very few with rondels, just numbers stick on the sides. They...

Re: TD... want to modify it for Calif Rally events - help?

Tom, Don't take this the wrong way, it's your car you can do with it what you like. But a CA. car that is not rusty and has good wood, but has a few dings, a lousy paint job, and an old tired interior really sounds like a pretty nice car. Especially considering all the tarted up TD's we see around h...

A I recall I fixed the piping to the top of the dash, but it has been awhile. The other piping just butts up against the hood trim and just ends, they did nothing fancy.

Re: Excelsior tyres

When I removed the old Dunlops some years ago, I had to place the deflated tire/wheel combo in a vice and work around the wheel squeezing the tire away from the rim. A pair of tire irons took them off nicely. They were replaced by Excelsior's of the proper size and now have done over 13,000 miles wi...

Re: Rebuilding TC5560

Sorry, I don't buy it. As I mentioned the head pipes on my Plus 8 have been wrapped for 25,000 miles without issue. What about all those ceramic coated manifolds? Are they different from header wrap? Jaguar used to coat all the XK manifolds, so did many others. Because somebody says so, doesn't mean...

Re: Rebuilding TC5560

The major reason I wrapped the down pipe in the TC was to help alleviate fuel percolation on hot restart. It did not seem to make any difference when removed. I have it on the head pipes of my Morgan plus 8 to try and insulate them as they curve close to the footwells, I suspect this also makes litt...
