Re: MG TC Stage 2 Wood Frame Build

Steve. When you have assimilated all that data, is there any chance you can share it on-line or in a PM. Thanks,,

Re: TC Low Fuel disk

I just received my refurbished dashboard from Craig and it is a piece of art to say the least. All instruments refurbished, bezels re-chromed or replaced, new glass and new silkscreen dial faces where needed. All switches, cable pulls, lamps, ignition switch and horn push/dip switch refurbished as n...

Re: TC steering box

The felt pad is just a dust and dirt excluder that can be lightly oiled and tucked inside the column around the steering shaft and pushed down about 1/2" or so. I inserted the KOYO needle bearing which sort of centers the steering shaft and then pushed the felt down on top of that. I think I trimmed...

Re: TC Differential

Pretty much the same on the reverse side too Richard. If you'll notice there is a heavy line of Prussian blue at the root and the leading edge of the teeth and the central area is filmed thinner by contact. I used too much bluing and the heavy lines are where the bluing squeezed out and left a heavi...

Re: TC Differential

They're HT Aerotite self locking HT nuts, bolts and washers from Roger Furneaux. Torqued in 3 steps 12 - 12 - 6 to 30 ft.-lbs in a cris-cross pattern.

Re: TC Differential

Steve, et al... I think I've got it whipped. CW&P backlash set to .0065". New tapered roller bearings installed, pinion shim is .060" It fell within .002" of the calculations from Roger Furneaux's setup instructions, Pre-loads are set. Don't think I can make it much better. Prussian blue test yielde...

"Ditto!" I'd like to see some empirical data to back up the words as well! Otherwise, this horse has been pretty much beaten to death!

Don't know if it's the recommended lube of choice or not but I use white lithium grease. Works for me!

Re: TC Differential

Just finished doing the set-up, calculations and measurements today for my pinion the crown wheel interface. The unit had a .020" shim originally, I purchased a .060" shim from Roger Furneaux as being the most common when converting to tapered rollers. When all was said and done. I need .085" total ...

Re: TC Differential

Yep, it was the first thing milled off to incorporate the new metal cone that accepts the modern rubber lip seal. My scroll looked to be in good shape and I couldn't really see much evidence of front cone leakage in that area so you are probably right that it did do a pretty fair job in it's basic d...

Re: Rear brakes are "hanging"

'Fraid not Jeff.... once you pull that entire cable assembly, the answer becomes crystal clear. Nothing "common" about it that the auto stores would carry. Bummer!!!! Bite the bullet, replace them both.

Re: Rear brakes are "hanging"

You may have found the core source of your problem Jeff. I suspect stranding of the cable has started to break and unwind inside the sheath. Nothing you can do with it. The Tee is part of the assembly, if one side is bad, the other side is probably not far behind. I'd replace them both. There are tw...

Re: TC Differential

Thanks Steve: I just finished the run-out testing and torque up of new HT bolts and Aerotite nuts on the crown wheel yesterday, Then adjusted the nuts on the new tapered roller bearings and made a set-up to measure 5-7 in-lbs breakaway torque. Today, I will be calculating the thickness of spacers I ...

Re: Rear brakes are "hanging"

I'm afraid you're stuck with what you've got unless you sleeve it Steve. No obvious way for it to come apart! nd I just completely refurbished mine. I decided to live with the little bit of chrome distress on the top of the handle.

Re: Rear brakes are "hanging"

The trunnion bearings will slide inward on the crossbar allowing the whole unit to clear the frame rails. As my floorboards, gearbox and everything was out of the car, mine naturally came out the top. if you rid yourself of topside obstructions, the crossbar should rotate enough to drop out the bott...

Re: Rear brakes are "hanging"

Jeff: After you've removed all the items that connect to the handbrake assembly, springs, cables to rear wheels, You then will remove the two bolts that mounts the ratchet sector piece (item 22) and handbrake stop assembly (item 25, 26) to the center stop mounting bracket on the frame. Then remove ...

Re: Rear brakes are "hanging"

Handbrake.png Jeff: Make sure the adjustment wingnut (item 23) is set so that the "ears" that hold the swivel pins (item 5) where the individual brake cable attach to the handbrake crossbar are in the vertical position when the handbrake is off. You can then adjust the cable adjusting nut (item 4) ...
