On the stock steering bracket there are four bolts. The upper bolt holds the box to the bracket and is designed to be installed with the head of bolt facing out--opposote of what you show. If the nut loosens and falls off, the bolt will only be able to back out just about an inch before it hits body...

You are right on the pistons. They do list rods and +020 and +040 rings as in stock. There are some TA people here.

Doug Pelton with "From the frame up" in AZ seems to have pistons and rods and some other internal engine parts for the TA. I do not see a crankshaft. The online catalog has gotten easier to use, and you can filter to only include TA items in each catagory.

Do a search of the name and address and you get a list of British Gliding Association inspectors under the alphabetically listed "ordinary inspectors." His name and that address. Probably his home address. List from 1977. Page 2 of ordinary inspectors. Maybe he ran an export company out of his house...

When the spindles and the hubs are on the correct sides, the spindle nut tightens in the opposite direction of the knockoff. It all makes sense.

When I rebuilt the box I used the original worm, so it is on the car. Likely the original peg pictured. It did match up to the new peg I installed. Bob- Note that my comment above about "unwise noise while cruising in 4th" with 90W oil has nothing to do with synchromesh function. I have tried several brands of multi weight 140's, plain old GL4 140W, and the MTL (90W) that clearly is inappropriate. The synchro's worked quite well with each type....

Redline makes great oils, but you do not want to use 90 weight in a transmission that calls for 140 weight. If you try 90 weight in the stock TC transmission it will make unwise sounds while cruising in 4th gear.

The later TC RF95/2 #37057 box has different windings numbers from the RF91 you reference. The RF95/2 #37057 is also different than the TD box you describe, designed for a different dynamo. RF95/2 #37057 produced in 8/49 and fitted to TC9866 (production date 10/49) has 2 and 4 windings.

The front hubs are a wear item on the TC. They wear where the bearings press in, and once pressed in the wobble can be detected. They will press in with the normal resistance, but once in-- the fit will be loose.

If everything checks out well, try swapping the brake drum from another wheel.
