The re-stamping is not a factory job, so presumably some later owner had the engine replaced. I've never seen a factory plate with 0's cancelling an engine number, and the re-stamping is too uneven.

Re: Diamonds on Wheels TC
There is quite a bit of interest in engine numbers - could you please post a photograph of your re-stamped engine number and the Guarantee plate? Thank you.

Re: PB620 Whereabouts?
Jarl did offer me the PB and I considered it carefully; it was reasonably priced (which I would rather not reveal, as it's Jarl's price, not mine). Yes, the light fire damage was discussed and clearly shown in pictures; it looked singed, not badly burned. I do not know if it has been sold - it was h...

You are referring to Jarl deBoer's PB, which was for sale a few years ago. Try mail08@deboer.net

TC trans in a TD?
Does anyone have any sort of plans for the necessary modifications to the transmission mount area of a TD for installing a TC transmission? I don't want to reinvent the wheel if something already exists out there.
Thank you.,

Re: sealant
It's usually the gasket that is the problem, not the sealant - it is very hard to get a cork gasket to seal properly. See mgtrepair.net for the preferred silicone rubber gasket that does NOT leak.

Re: 1936 MGTA rear wings / fenders
TA's used two different bodies, B269 and B270. According to Clausager (Factory Original MG T-series, revised edition), the change-over was at about car TA1250, in April, 1937. B269 has a narrow fenders and a wide petrol tank, while B270 has a narrower petrol tank and wider fenders with a rib (I assu...

Re: TC Exhaust Manifold
About 55 years ago I heard about a 20,000-mile TC, that had run into the back of a parked truck in 1952 when the driver fell asleep - the entire front end and frame were pushed back about a foot, and the car was accordion-ed to more than half the bonnet. (The driver wore a wide racing-style seat bel...

TC Exhaust Manifold
A friend suggested the other day that a TC exhaust manifold is different from a TD manifold, but I am unable to see a difference, other than longer TC studs. Both my TC and TD manifolds are all casting 24060.

Doug Pelton at From the Frame Up in the US sells proper TC slow-running parts, and is a great source of information. He has also made a video, available on-line, describing the correct installation of the slow running control.

Re: Sump filter gasket.
There is no need for sealer on the fiber gasket, since it is always immersed in oil. I do use sealant on the paper gasket, but very sparingly so it does not clog up the oil delivery hole.

Re: Sump filter gasket.
I'm afraid I am still not confident which gasket you mean. In the sump on the pick-up there is a gasket between the cap and the housing; there is also a paper gasket between the pick-up flange and the sump itself. The former is a thin, fiber gasket, and although it will be hard to cut, a cork gasket...

Re: TA Brake Master Cylinder
The TA/B master cylinder is different from the TC one, which is a can-type. The one you have is clearly not original; my TA has a TD master cylinder! I am pretty sure Doug Pelton (From the Frame Up) sells both types - TA and TC. I also know he has other TA parts. I know I have some also; contact me ...

Re: Removing the oil pump
When I remove an oil pump, I use an M8x1.0 in the driven gear stud, and pull it out of the block with the help of a socket and washers. Removing that stud allows the pump to rotate 360, and then it just pulls straight out. NEVER use a puller! The only key holds the drive gear and shaft together, and...

Re: TC bonnet vents
A) They are usually angled backwards, so they would not act as hood scoops B) The airflow over the bonnet of a TC would probably whisk most of the water away before it worked its way into the engine C) I once saw a 50's race car where both the bonnet top was louvered, AND the side panels were remove...
Re: TC tyres
I have had very good results with tyres from Longstone Tyres in the UK; their prices and shipping are very good. I have Blockley's on one of my TCs, and except for one tyre that refuses to seat, they are great. Do not be fooled into thinking that 4.95x19 Model A tyres fit just as well - they don't. ...

Hmmm. Hopes dashed in an instant. With no Guarantee plate, the TD engine means that the chassis number is your only hope, Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Re: 1948 tc vin?
There is hope! Bob just wrote me this: "The tag on the engine reads XPAG TC 4950. I was told that it had a TD engine in it." If the tag reads as you say, the tag, at least, is from a TC, and very probably is your original engine. The number you give is certainly a TC number. It is remotely possible ...
