Re: sector shaft bore
Some further thoughts: ....However, seems that the end-play on the worm gear in its fore-and-aft positions, inside the box, is as much a concern for friction and slop as the drop arm up-and-down positions. Maybe these bearings and races on the worm gear ends are not discussed as frequently, but the...

Re: sector shaft bore
If you do not have the factory original worm then you probably have a nice paperweight. FTFU used to sell proper worms made in Canada through Bob Grunau. FTFU has not had them in stock for some time now. Nearly all of the aftermarket worms sold over the decades have been junk that do not work proper...

It was said the outer insulation was grey, Ray.
Here is an example of a "duplex wire" with outer insulation.

Re: spark plug advice
I agree with Steve on the Champion L86C spark plugs for a TC head. Standard tip, non resistor. Some will tell you to only run projected tip spark plugs, but I have found the equivalent heat range (L92YC) in projected tip to cause poor running at times. Original plugs from the factory were L10S which...

Take a look at the faff Moss is pushing for the wiper motor wiring.. Should make for a real classy wiring job at the regulator.

Re: Wiper ground wire.
Ray- The wiper motor is the only instance I can think of in the TC where a "duplex" wiring scheme is used. The positive and the negative wires each have a poly insulation (red and black) and both those wires underneath the poly insulation is a (small gage) solid copper strand, nearly identical to ol...

Re: MG TA1932 in Germany - Blog - all problems and ...
The box is billed as being a heat shield. It contains an asbestos sheet insulator on the side near the exhaust. I have seen several T types for sale recently with the box entirely omitted, which I think is a poor idea for the reason you mention about stones, etc. I run my TC with the box, but no asb...

Re: MG TA1932 in Germany - Blog - all problems and ...
Franz- A common mistake regarding the rear bearing is to simply re-assemble as it was taken apart. The paper "gasket" is more than a gasket. Really it is a shim. The rear bearing "clamp up" must be very precise. When the car left the factory it very likely had a paper gasket. Through wear and tear o...

A stock and un-modified TC steering box requires NO machining to take the rubber seal Steve mentioned-- National #240735.

Re: MG TA1932 in Germany - Blog - all problems and ...
If grease is used, there will eventually be no fresh lubrication between the top of the sector shaft and top plate. With gear oil, each time the steering is turned right or left it sloshes oil waves to coat the top plate with reservoir oil-- which then gets between the top of sector shaft-end and ru...

Re: MG TA1932 in Germany - Blog - all problems and ...
When a stock TC steering box is properly rebuilt with a correctly manufactured worm, the sector shaft will rise up slightly at center steer and "rub" against the top plate (only at center steer). That is why the top plate is often called the rub plate. Defective worms are unfortunately very common i...

Re: MG TA1932 in Germany - Blog - all problems and ...
On the stock steering bracket there are four bolts. The upper bolt holds the box to the bracket and is designed to be installed with the head of bolt facing out--opposote of what you show. If the nut loosens and falls off, the bolt will only be able to back out just about an inch before it hits body...

You are right on the pistons. They do list rods and +020 and +040 rings as in stock. There are some TA people here.

Re: MG TA internal engine parts
Doug Pelton with "From the frame up" in AZ seems to have pistons and rods and some other internal engine parts for the TA. I do not see a crankshaft. The online catalog has gotten easier to use, and you can filter to only include TA items in each catagory.

Do a search of the name and address and you get a list of British Gliding Association inspectors under the alphabetically listed "ordinary inspectors." His name and that address. When the spindles and the hubs are on the correct sides, the spindle nut tightens in the opposite direction of the knockoff. It all makes sense.
