Re: Later SU carbs

Steve- the decals are neat, but the real treasures are the intact elements. Those are almost always missing, or toast. Very well made.

Re: Later SU carbs

How does it run with the K&N filters removed? I have heard a number of tales about how the H2's do not like K&N filter media because they restrict air intake. Only pancake filters I have ever run with H2's are some vintage Hellings and Stellings with the original perforated steel outer and inner and...

Re: Replacing Blown Head Gasket

WKF Wood says nothing is needed on the gasket. Top of page II-11 or page 17. http://www.ttalk.info/WKF-Wood-XPAG-Engine-Book.pdf I recently used nothing. You definitely do need to check your head for flatness. The reason the gasket often blows between 2 and 3 is because on these engines the head wan...

Of course the EXU's had no lettering, and it is not missed. Not sure if the other EXport models did lettering.

Re: 5 Speed gearbox

Just a note, most suggest the 5 spd be used with stock 5.125:1 rear end. I run a stock 5.125 and TC stock transmission, but use slightly larger 30" OD Model A tires, which in effect gives about equivalent of a 4.8:1 rear end. Only thing to add about Model A tires is the ones I got (Universal brand m...

Re: ARP Flywheel Bolts Available - MGT Repair

Should sell a lot of those. Holes a definite plus. I like how Tom tells what alloy is being used, like on the 300 stainless thermostat housing and the (also) 8740 head studs, and main cap studs.

Sounds like Tom is waxing mythological. An old sailor's term, and relevant to a car's cooling system?

Re: Bishop "end cover adjustment?

You are adjusting the "pinch" on the ball bearings which are on either end (front/back) of the steering cam. Of course you do not actually want any "pinch" or end play. Once that is shimmed properly you can move on to the top plate adjustment.

Re: TC sump baffles

I always thought the original baffle design was pretty clever. Keep your pickup screen clean and the sump filled to the right level and you will probably not ever experience a problem. Anyway, engines can run without damage for a very short while without oil flow. How long a high g left hander we ta...

Re: Charging rate?

Steve, sounds like your battery is pretty discharged. Best to charge it up with a charger whenever it gets low like that. What you are doing you will not likely burn up the voltage regulator, but rather the dynamo. If your battery is fully charged, then the regulator might need adjustment. You can h...

Might try some regular blue Hylomar to fill any fine pitting on the block where the plug seats.

Re: TC 5 speed box

No, I do not misunderstand anything about gear ratio's. Quite simply, if you have two identical cars, except one has the stock 5.125 diff ratio and the other has a "lower number" ratio like 4.6 and you start both cars from a stop and accelerate up to say 60mph, the 5.125 ratio car will get there qui...

Re: TC 5 speed box

Except for the gear cut and synchros and neat sounds, the 5 spd box is meant to run a stock differential ratio. 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th of the 5spd duplicate the ratios of the original transmission, but 5th is then a bonus overdrive. Problem with the pumpkin ratio mods is you then must have an engine ...

Re: TC Bumpers

Front EXU bumpers are entirely bolted on with no welding. Same with the rear. Fronts attach to chassis by way of a special damper mounting plate. see picture. mount.jpg Rears mounts are a bit more involved, and 2nd pic shows proper license plate bracket above bumper, with light above plate. rear.JPG...

Re: TC Bumpers

Interesting picture to pick for a book on originality. Showing chromed wire wheels, Alfins (or something shiney) chromed tail light bodies, that thing on the end of the tailpipe, and driving lights and a quick release radiator cap, and (unlit) license plate in back below the bumper. All incorrect on...

Re: Front Hub Bearings, Again!

Don't forget the oil seal that goes between the rear spacer and the inner bearing. Generally, once the bearing spacer is sized correctly the bearings are greased and loaded (pressed) into the hub, with the bearing spacer in between. Then the back oil seal is installed at the back of the hub. The ste...

Re: Front Hub Bearings, Again!

Just to be sure, each spindle gets 2 different "spacers." There is the bearing spacer, which has been discussed here, but there is also the steel "seal spacer." See moss catalog #8 here: https://mossmotors.com/mg-tc-td-tf/suspension-steering/tc-front-suspension You can see this seal spacer behind th...
