Re: copper brake lines

Marv, CU-NI will fracture. Nothing to with the the science. If it's not clipped at close regular intervals the slight movement induced will fracture it. I seem to remember the suggested clamping is 12", 200 cm apart. The TC is clipped well enough not to cause any problems.

Re: Gas Tank Leak Detection

You've just reminded me. 10 years ago I had a slight drip of petrol from my Caterham ali tank. It had been rubbing on the chassis. As it was the depth of winter and below zero (the drips of fuel had frozen, which is why I noticed it), I slapped a bit of epoxy resin in the pin hole. Although the tank...

TC Headlamps

I have two, unused, new headlamps, which we thought had been lost but have now been found, for sale. The suppliers I can find have them for: NTG £ 790.70 S-V-C £ 675.00 Vintage Mg Parts £690.00 All the above would have carriage added. Mine are S-V-C items and are in Sheffield. Price, how about £500 ...

Re: Spelling

I suspect some may not understand the different word used for technical items. Like wrist pin, cotter pin (when meaning a split pin) and a few others I can't recall now. The body ones are, I think, well known now. Hood/bonnet, trunk/boot, fender/bumper (or is it wing?) If you are English and have Am...

Re: Differential pinion oil seal replacement on TC

I fitted a modern seal supplied by Roger Furmeaux in the UK.

No idea if it's oil tight yet. Give me a shout about next March :)

Re: TA Battery Replacement

Get a Lithium-ion battery. Pick it up with one finger, about the size of a bag of sugar and enough power to turn my 11:1 CR Cosworth engine over for a few minutes.

I goy mine for about £100, if you shop around you should find one that's not silly money (like £500 from DT in the UK)

Re: A viable alternative to the stock shock bushings

I did clean it with emery cloth. It's so much easier with the nylon bush. It's how they would be if they were making the car today.

Re: TC Gauges

Norman, I needed all the gauges doing, the car had been in a damp garage for 48 years and the faces were rusty. The chap I used has had new faces laser cut from original patterns. So he overhauled the mechanisms of all the gauges including the clock and fitted new faces to the speedo, tach, oil and ...

Re: A viable alternative to the stock shock bushings

Norman, I got 6 in without a problem but the inside of the arm on the 4th shocker is badly rusted. I've cleaned it but the metal is badly pitted and the rubber is catching on the rough surface and ends up going in sideways. I'l be waiting for the bodyshop for a month or so and may take the opportuni...

Re: Do I use existing/stock thermostat or a new style one?

Do not use OAT (Organic Antifreeze Technology) as it eats away old type solder as used in T type rads. Most OAT is used for 5 years in the cooling system of new cars. Use ordinary old fashioned Gycol AF. It will need changing every year (or used to) I never realised you should wash the kitchen stuff...

Re: A viable alternative to the stock shock bushings

I'll keep an eye on them. It'll be easy to drill them and fit, what we call, a split pin.

Re: A viable alternative to the stock shock bushings

I've used a nylon bar and turned it down to size to be a tight fit in the link. Then drill through to take the "peg". The Nylon will give a bit of flex and, like your hydraulic hose is much easier to fit.

However you do need a lathe to make the bush from a Nylon bar.

I'm using a primer with cellulose paint as original. They are planning on giving it 3 coats so a lot of rubbing down.

Re: Seat Adjustment Track

Surely, if you have the backrest in an upright position, the squab sliders right back then that's where the hinged brackets will fit. Then the seat can move forward.

Or am I missing something?

Re: TC Gauges

$1445! I thought I'd paid too much when I paid £720 for all four gauges to be overhauled with new faces, That's $1093. They were done by a chap in the UK who has a 7 page thread of complaints about him on "The MG experience". The £720 also included return postage (UK to France). They were ready in t...
