Re: Seat mountying hardware
You won't find cadmium plating on most old cars. They used zinc-nickel plating on many things, and if it was something visible like a radiator shell or seat adjust handle, then chrome was added over the zinc-nickel plating. The makers plate on the TC was another example of "nickel" plating. nick.jpg

Mike-
Are your front hubs new? They wear where the bearings fit in, and it is not always obvious without a careful visual inspection. The car will never drive right if the hubs are "loose" where the bearings fit into them.

Re: Bonnet (hood) Fitting
This is what Mark and myself have mentioned about the arched line that was originally present in all TC's at the back of the folding bonnet. At top and bottom on mine is about 3/16". Front line at radiator is straight. Very doubtful this rear line was cut to fit each car on the line with big shears.

Re: Bonnet (hood) Fitting
Raising the front part of the cockpit would also lessen the gap. Does not mean that is what you should do. Curious if the bonnet panel (vertical, at area in question) is a straight line or a gentle outward curve? Originally that piece had a gentle curve, to meld the visual lines of the car better. M...

Re: Reset "trip" mileage -- How?
I suspect your winding stem (2 piece) is being held together with shrink tubing, and not actually turning the stem part that goes into the instrument. Mine would be like that too, except I repaired it with a bit of solder. Might be a very small pin involved, but I cannot recall exactly how I did it....

Looking good. Always best to store a car with freshly changed engine oil in it. Change the oil one drive before it will be stored. Makes a big difference, in the long run. Same goes for other oils, and the coolant mix.

I think it was rubber, but the surface had texture similar to a heavy canvas . Stuff "they" sell now is just rubber strips with no texture on surface.

Re: Running Board and Tire Tread Gap Distance from Rear Wing
It does make it easier to get the rear wheels off by jacking up the axle. Good reminder, Norman. I had some Dunlops on my wheels that were so old and hard that I had to use a sawzall to help get them off.

Re: Tire circumference with the illusion of speed and handling
Robert, if you recall the problem getting the standard Model A tires (475/500 x 19)on the rear axle, you will remember the difficulty was the getting thickest part of the tire past the gap between hub and top part of rear wheel (fender) cutout. Deflating the tire will sometimes do the trick. The fir...

Re: Tire circumference with the illusion of speed and handling
Those Goodriches are meant to be installed on a 3.0-3.5 inch rim. Standard TC rim is 2.5 inch. Though the actual outside width of an original TC wheel is 3.7 inch, that is not how it is measured. Doubtful anybody would suggest it OK to put such fat tires on 2.5" rims. Or have you already got 3" rims...

Re: Tire circumference with the illusion of speed and handling
What size and brand tire is 31.4 inches? Such a tire would give you the equivalent of a 4.5:1 rear end. Interesting to note that circumference is not a stat tire makers ever mention.
