If you are looking for originality on the covered dash, that vinyl is not even close. We discussed it recently, and a few here still have the known original rexine on their cars. see: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=60495

Re: TC seat dilemma

Pic above indicates seat bases are same shape--early and late. Sherrell diagram indicates seat bottoms are different between early and late (as well as different backs).

Re: TC seat dilemma

Now I see on top of page 56 of TC's Forever the 2 different designs. Sherrell indicates the early style was on "very early" cars.

Re: TC seat dilemma

Oh, I see what you mean. Never knew that. So pleats all the way down would be cheaper? Or you could just tough it out with the vinyl you got, until Covid strains reverse. Saving up for the correct style.

Pleats all the way to the bottom..... of the seat bottom? I have a '49 also and was not aware the older ones were different.

Re: Camshaft comprehension

I thought Steve had that problem running Len's special roller rockers?

Clogged radiator on the TC is tricky to diagnose, as they get crudded up from the bottom. Look fine from above. Ask me how I know

Re: photo size

If you know how to resize pictures using the programs built into most computers, it can still be tricky. Generally I take a picture using a low resolution setting on camera/phone -- with the actual subject in the center of frame. Then I download it to computer so I can re-size it by eliminating all ...

Re: coach trimmer

There were actually two completely different shades of green for a TC. The different green only was available very late in production. I am talking about leather seat color. Moss only makes the kits in the one color of green. :(

Re: Repair to GirlingPR6 damper

I rebuilt all 4 about 6 years ago. Should be no filing involved. I polished the shaft where it would be in contact with the two new lip seals. I replaced the "core plugs" with original type steel plugs from NAPA.

Looks like a boot to go around a high beam switch for some other car.

Re: Differential oil

When I replaced pinion bearings I used SKF bronze caged (not tapered conversion) and filled it with (Chevron) Delo Gear ESI 85W140. Oil like this is not marketed to classic car owners. Auto Zone always seems to have it. https://cglapps.chevron.com/msdspds/PDSDetailPage.aspx?docDataId=76979&docFormat...

Re: Transmission oil

Lasloja- I have taken another drive with the Redline 90W and completely changed my mind about it. Oil film thickness on gear teeth is simply not up to the task. While it shifts fine no matter what oil is in there, a problem becomes obvious when the oil is warm and we are motoring along. Gears are no...

Re: LOCTITE 310G FREEZE & RELEASE SPRAY

Only thing I considered was a nice coat of Red Rubber Grease as lubricant. Rule of thumb is never use any petroleum based lube on anything rubber. RRG (Castrol is a common name) is typically used to lube rubber assembly in hydraulic components like brake MC's or wheel cylinders, as small amounts (of...

Short of threadlocker, nothing beats a properly "sized" and installed split lock washer for bulkhead/chassis, even in the most extreme conditions. As original to the TC.

Re: Insurance Ad

Interesting perspective on accidents back then. If you look through old racing programs from the early '50's they often have pictures of accidents from the prior year.
