Kam: just a side note, I can take sheet metal such as is on our TC's and blast a hole right through it with my shop machine using aluminum oxide grit.

Re: Sandblasting Wheel Rims
Kam: Unless the spines have been exposed to a wet/damp environment, why do you want to blast them? If they are rusty then do a low pressure blast with the proper material sparingly. Maybe your shop uses aluminum grit on sheet metal but I haven't heard of many that do. Like yours is the first! Duncan...

Re: Sandblasting Wheel Rims
First of all Kam, I would strongly try to talk you out of using an aggressive media like aluminum blast, black magic or similar grit like material. Aggressive media will disrupt the surface of the metal and tend to warp body panels. Would also shy away from using it on wheels as well. The more acce...

MG TD/TF Cluster Gear Layshaft for sale - NOS factory stock
Not a T-ABC item but related! I have a NOS MG TD / MG TF Cluster Gear - Layshaft (Moss equiv 441-010) that I got from a local dealer who went out of business in the late '70's. It is in perfect condition, never installed, just has been resting in my spares bin wrapped in oil paper all these years. ...

Re: Removing Oil Pump Shaft and Gear
Hi Jim; As Norm said you typically will not need a puller of any type to yank the oil pump. If yours feels that stuck (mating faces). Wrap an old rag around the base at the split line tightly. spray it soaking wet but not dripping with PB Blaster. Let it set for a day and it should pop out, a few so...

Re: TC 1/2 shaft stuck!
OK, now it's clear. Yep, you don't need that oil slinger with the new seal kit from Roger. It won't hurt to leave it in. No effect on the new kit. My condolences or congratulations on the ex-girlfriend ----- whichever is appropriate!!! With the car and the boat now serviceable or soon to be, a...

Re: TC 1/2 shaft stuck!
Max: Are you saying the outside diameter of the splines were jammed into the oil slinger but there was still sufficient protrusion of the spines to make contact with the hub? If so, had you noticed any unusual metal to metal noises when driving? Or, are you saying the end of the shaft was so far int...

Re: TC 1/2 shaft stuck!
Steve: I agree wholeheartedly, when and if my straight shaft(s) shear again, I will also upgrade to the tapered units. For now they're going in place with the upgraded Nitrided units and with the anti leak/tapered roller bearing mods from Roger Furneaux. On another thought on Duncan's inquiry, the p...

Re: TC 1/2 shaft stuck!
Duncan: My humble opinion is it was a combination of spline wear and perhaps loose tolerances when new. A failing bearing could possibly have put some slight bending moment into the splines trying to make them wobble and therefore increasing spine wear. Don't think anything snapped or else MaxMG wou...

Rarely do I laugh out loud at an email or similar posting, this is twice now you've made me smile Steve!
MaxMG. Yep, you done good on parts sourcing, I also bought the anti-leak rear axle upgrade from Roger along with a few other of his "Goodies".

Re: TC 1/2 shaft stuck!
Didja' get it out MaxMG? Any problems? I sheared an original TC5141 (1948) vintage shaft on Lady Di (my wife's name for the car) and the method I described worked like a champ on the long end of the shaft still in the diffy tube. Also did the same thing on a TD some years back, same procedure, same ...

Re: TC 1/2 shaft stuck!
Yep, that's the only way to get it out as far as I know. get a heavy rod, square bar or length of pipe about 40"-48" long, No larger than 3/4ths the diameter of the 1/2 shaft. Make sure it's clean so you don't introduce debris into the mix and also square not pointed or chisel ended on the contact e...

XPAG OIL PUMP (late) oil pressure relief valve
-SOLD- A short while back I believe someone asked if anyone had a oil pressure relief valve for a late XPAG TD/TF engine application. Moss P/N 435-060 (NLA) or Abingdon Spares P/N 03-160 (NLA). I have found one in my spares and it is available. Please contact me though the group email or directly o...

With a smile on my face Steve, Well said! I haven't heard that one since I retired out of the Aerospace industry. Too many times do we look for a solution to a non-existent problem. Can't blame Kam for thinking out loud though. Keep it up Kam!

Re: Wheels out-of shape (don't spin evenly)
Cheap enough for a complete restring on 5 wheels. I looked on their website and nothing pops off the page at me but I will call and see if they have records and saved data from yours and (others)? purchased for TC application. It's either that or I'm sorta' seriously looking at the current offering ...

Re: Radiator Slats
Hi Tim:
I have absolutely no idea if TD slats are anywhere close in profile geometry to the TB. But I've got a set around here somewhere that had damaged slats and of little use to a TD restoration. Would be happy to work something out with you if they'll help.

Re: Wheels out-of shape (don't spin evenly)
Steve:
Did you have to drill out the hub to accommodate the larger nipples, me thinks the answer is yes! Have you got Buchanan part numbers handy or will they know when asked. Approx what was the cost in their hardware per wheel? Thanks....

Re: Wheels out-of shape (don't spin evenly)
Kam. Stop in at your local Motorcycle shop. Any shop that has full services and does British Bikes can true your wheels up and tell you if you need new spokes. Tires off, bead blasted and cleaned before you go. But you can search one out before hand.

Uh-Oh Kam, Now you've done it!!! You've offended the O.P. (Originality Police) big time with the color combinations you're playing with. They might have turned their heads a bit when you were attacking poor old Lucas but now this... Purple fenders on a TC!!! Sacrilege!   Marv TC5141
