Re: Installng Moss leather seat kts

My seats had a rubbery foam on seat squabs with Dunlopillo stamped .Bit of a moulded shape to them as not entirely straight from front to back but a bit of a dish as well as sitting on sloping wooden base. as for seat back may of been foam from memory . Not much stretching as did not have much mater...

Re: rear diff ratios

My car has a later type diff from either a TD.TF or something similar with axle ends cut off and re welded to original TC mounts. I have often wondered how you tell what current gearing now is as speedo is driven from gearbox .I was thinking of using my NavMan to give me a speed at a known revs such...

Re: Installng Moss leather seat kts

see my post recently .job will be made much easier if your old seats original to copy as in my case not so and would be nice to know details such as how pleats finished with seat back etc . Also as to how much wadding on sides to eliminate puckering .I had no clue as to how thick seat squab was at b...

Re: Seat trim problem

My seat has foam but would imagine if wire springs inside perhaps material was tied to it rather than being tasked behind as would be difficult to do as would need to cut due to the curve. Perhaps it was the metal springs that rested on transmission tunnel. The main thing is that I think seat is cor...

Re: Seat trim problem

G,day folks,I was hoping someone might of been able to reply with a typical measurement of distance from top of seat where wood tacking strip down to where centre of arch over transmission tunnel is cut out. I have no way of knowing what is correct and whether my backing board as at some stage been ...

Re: Can't remove rear wheel bearing slotted nut

I discovered that my front stub axles were back to front although hubs were correct on the front, thank God for split pins . As for near and off side I guess that you are in the US and off course these cars were made in UK where left/near side is the Kerb or Gutter as in Australia. You guys drive on...

Re: How to adjust TC Brake M/C rod to peddle angle

Interesting as I had the same problem but only when bleeding brakes . My brake rod though not as bad would scrape on the M/C on it,s maximum stoke until bled but noted that rod inside M/C has a rounded end from memory allowing for it to be pushed on an angle. It is possible that different cylinders ...

Re: copper brake lines

G,day again.I once saw a TC for sale with a Holden Grey motor and reckon would of been a great motor combination. Motor also of similar vintage. Never mind the purists as MGC,S are a 6 cylinder version of an MGB About 3 yrs ago there was a Left hand drive TC for sale in W.A that had a V6 Nissan moto...

Re: copper brake lines

Has road testing changed now in Vic? I thought NSW was the only state that had yearly road inspections apart from new cars for first 3 yrs. When you see some of the cars in QLD you think how lucky , different size engines, modifications etc. Only a problem when selling or change of ownership. I look...

Re: copper brake lines

G,day. Not really sure but if original ,should be legal as rules ADR applies to all states but then again the TC pre dates any modern rules which I think came into effect 1976. I purchased a cheap pipe pending tool which I have no use and a pipe flaring kit and pipe cutter and purchased the steel pip...

Re: copper brake lines

G,day folks. I replaced all my pipes about a year ago and actually wrote to NSW RMS as was not sure if the copper nickel pipes were legal. The reply I got back was the usual ADR stuff but lastly Steel Bandy pipe meeting some design rule but more importantly last paragraph stated or other type pipe t...

Re: Chassis number for 1949 MG TC

I too have a late 49 TC -TC9583 with original engine XPAG 10357 but now has XPAG 10754 which I believe has been in car for 30 yrs or more. This means numbers could vary by nearly 800. People make a big deal about matching numbers but I also have a 1928 BSA 1.74hp 2 stroke [vary vary rare ] and frame...

Re: Need advice on Sprite diff swat in to the TC

Will get around to it one day.Bath tub plug sounds much easier. I guessed was weeping between splines. Liked the idea of modern seal conversion but not sure if my half shafts the same as original TC but a rag once every now and then does the job and inside brake drum clean. One day will work out wha...

Re: Need advice on Sprite diff swat in to the TC

G,day. No idea what model my diff is from but is of the type of TD -TF -Morris. [splits in half up the middle ] What has been done is the ends sawn off and TC mounts welded on . I,m no welder but neatly done and seems to work ok and is silent as a mouse Had a slight oil leak and was going to fit mode...

Re: Front axle

G,day.Even if your beam axle is correct way round please make sure stub axles are on correct sides . I,m sure they would be but in my case were wrong side so that nuts for cotter pin were at the back and castle nuts undid with the rotation of wheels. Thank goodness split pins were in. My car has a D...
