Re: Need wheel arch bracket/bell housing.
Bob. have you found your bracket yet. I have couple of them here that I think are ok for re-chroming, I believe I have two that have been re-chromed as well. In fact pretty sure about that. let me know and I'll dig them out...

I haven't looked at Doug's offerings yet at FTFU. However, on a whim I checked eBay and here's a set in stainless steel from the UK for about $42.00 delivered to the US. eBay item number:

Re: Petrol Cap
There is a pin that serves as the pivot point of the cap to the fuel tank neck assembly, Remove that and the cap assembly can be removed, Then click on the link below that Doug Pelton at FTFU has put together. He may have any parts you may need for re-assembly. http://www.chicagolandmgclub.com/tech...

Re: Engine History
Good Question! My last TD, a 1953, (I was the second owner), was not a "numbers matching car and I was told by the son that his father, (deceased), had thrown a rod and destroyed the original engine more or less. He ordered a new unit from the dealer and received a "Crate Engine" which happened to ...

Re: Brake fluid
I recently rebuilt the brake system on a MGB and a MGA and changed both over to Silicone DOT 5.0 Silicone. Don't mistakenly get DOT 5.1 which is just a refined version of DOT 4.0 Glycol Based Fluid. I did not experience any loss of brake pedal feel in the changeover. In fact the only scenario I've ...

Let us know what you find when you pull the head Chris, That's the only way you're going to know what's happening.

Re: 'water on the head', no not that one, the cylinder head!
Whether assembly error, bad gasket, flatness or other, you're going to have to bite the bullet and tear it apart. It's assumed negative, although you haven't mentioned it. Any water traces in the oil? Pull the studs an do a low pressure air check on each or fill each hole up with solvent or water a...

Re: 'water on the head', no not that one, the cylinder head!
Seen something close once, MGA rebuild, had 5 or 6 "wet" head nuts. Probably would have seen them all wet if I had waited long enough. Drained the system and took the head off. Check the block with a parallel bar for flatness. Had the head checked by my local machine shop, it checked ok as well. On...

Re: Handbrake cable to back plate clamp-inner/outer
Maybe I just got lucky, Mine went together Ok, I remember I had to fiddle with them a bit but once they fell in place, it all made sense. Good luck, Patience is a virtue but sometimes you just need a bigger hammer!

Re: front and rear wheel cylinder mounting bolt sizes?
Yes Chris, 24tpi is the standard UNF for 5/16" SAE. 18tpi is the standard for UNC SAE. I am surprised that the fronts are 18tpi as most Lockheed brake components I'm familiar with use the fine thread pitch. They must have had a reason. Another thought is that BSW is almost a direct match in the 5/1...

Re: front and rear wheel cylinder mounting bolt sizes?
OK Chris: I've verified it with mine. They are 5/16-18UNC not UNF Mine are fully threaded 3/4" length under the head with a flat and lock washer in tow. If your source is slow or unavailable, I can pop 8 or 10 in a packet and send them across the puddle for you. brake cylinder bolt-front.png

Re: front and rear wheel cylinder mounting bolt sizes?
Chris: you say the 5/16 BSF seems better than the UNF 5/16 24. BSF is 22tpi Does it thread in all the way or hang up. The M8 x1.25 has 20.32tpi. The SAE size you may want is 5/16 - 18 UNC. There are other 5/16 SAE tpi's of 28 and 32 but these are highly specialized and fasteners are very expensive....

Re: front and rear wheel cylinder mounting bolt sizes?
Brake component were supplied by Lockheed (Now Delphi) Lockheed was all SAE threads try 1/4" and 5/16" fasteners, I believe they were fine thread 1/4-28 and 5/16-24. I think...

You're welcome, Fill the ports and gear cavities with Petroleum Jelly or White Lithium Grease and button it up. Fill the filter with as much oil as you can without making a mess before installation. Both actions help achieve system pressure more quickly than starting with everything empty. Torque yo...

Re: Negative Ground GPS in Positive Ground TC
I don't think there would be a problem by just using the Jacks on the center panel. The GPS shouldn't care if the car is positive ground. My guess is that the GPS is in a plastic case it will be isolated from grounding to the car and the only electric connections to it will be the two wires from the...
