I would very much like to contact the owner of TD0460, last recorded as Richard Wilson, Alberta, Canada.
If anyone knows how to contact him or any subsequent owner of that car, please get in touch with me.

Re: best manual
The Bentley may be the same, but I find the Blower manual to be the most useful for pre-war cars. Also, go through Totally T-Type 2 back issues (all on-line), and make note of TA-specific articles. Things like TC-steering articles will be of great use as the TC is basically the same as TA, except fo...

Re: TA auction bits
I am puzzled by a few things. First, engine MPJG3192 was originally fitted to TA2931, which is a very pretty red/red car currently registered as EBY871 in the UK. The engine was said to have been removed from a running vehicle in 2016, and it seems to be largely complete with a transmission (impossi...

Re: TA auction bits
I see that they have corrected the entry by adding a sentence, " PLEASE NOTE: This lot is an MPJG engine and not an XPAG engine as catalogued." I am surprised that they did not also note that this engine came out of TA 2931, which I did also tell them.

Re: TA auction bits
Despite this reply,
"Thank you for your email in regards to the MG TA engine. We were advised by the vendor that it was an XPAG however as you have stated it is an MPJG and we have now updated this."
no change has yet been made.

Re: TA auction bits
Odd that they make absolutely no mention of the crank or pistons, cam or other internals. I see the crank pulley and timing cover are in place, so I assume the "shorst block" is largely complete internally.

Re: TA auction bits
Very obviously an MPJG engine, but completely mis-described as an XPAG engine, with no mention that it comes with a gearbox!

Re: priming the oil system prior to 1st restart
There is much in the various archives on the subject. This is my procedure: I fill the oil pump gr\ears with Vaseline, which helps create enough suction to bring oil up from the sump. I also leave out 2qts of oil when filling the sump, connect the hose of an inexpensive garden sprayer to the oil pre...

Blower's manual will be the easiest place to find this information.

Re: Bump stops
I did not realize you were in the UK. My Abingdon Spares recommendation has little point for you. To install the rebound rubbers you will need to lift the suspension off the rubbers, by putting a jack on the bottom of the suspension, as far towards the outside of the car as possible. That will lift ...

Re: Master Cylinder rebuild.
jddevel - Is this for your TF? If so, the master needs to, and can, be sleeved in stainless steel for a life-time repair. I recommend Mark Frappier in Agawam, MA. Plenty in the archives on the TD/TF sites.

Re: Bump stops
First, go to the TD/TF pages; this is for pre-war and TC cars. There is MUCH there in the archives on rebuilding the front suspension for TD/TF cars. Then, look over your entire front suspension for other perished rubber - if the rebound rubbers are bad chances are 89% the pivot bushings and the sea...

Re: Water tap on block thread problem
I've bought BSP Helicoil-brand thread inserts, which would really be your best long-term solution.
For the short term you could try some Teflon tape to seal what threads are left.

Re: Suitable engine oils
You are opening up a can of worms by asking that question. There are many different kinds, brands and weights of oil out there, but 20w50 appears to be the best weight with today's oils and additives. Beyond that, it is a matter of personal opinion and anecdote. There is much discussion about the ne...

Re: TC Brass Engine Tags
Seems to me that there are such inconsistencies in what has been written about which castings were used in what cars when, that a bit of research and polling would be a good idea. I know that I am confused!

Re: TC Brass Engine Tags
Roger says, " Later, when the Y type was introduced in 1947, the block casting number became 24146 without any obvious design changes, although the drain valve was moved forward from behind the exhaust manifold. The TC engine changed to using the 24146 block at the same time, and the TD engine used ...

Re: TC Brass Engine Tags
Duncan - Yes - you are right. I was reporting the two possibilities based solely on the engine number. According to Roger Wilson's article cited above, the early TC block was casting 24124 until 1947, and from then on the TC, Y and TD ALL used the 24146 block until July 1950. Then the TD used block ...
