Re: Grille Shell Lacing
I'm not sure anyone ever solved this definitively. The general wisdom suggests that it was a rubberized woven canvas. Some claim that later TCs switched from this to rubber but I don't know if that's accurate. I believe the big pre-war saloons specified "rubber lacing" but again it's likely this was...

Crankshaft Flange
I have a NOS Moss crankshaft here (451-490) that just came out of the box with a bit of a surprise. Has anyone seen this before? Possibly a balancing thing? I was planning to put this into an engine with a Moss rear seal kit, so obviously this won't work unless anyone has any bright ideas? If not th...

Re: Instrument panel
I believe many pre-war cars had spark plug holders fitted, but postwar is all aftermarket.

Re: Instrument panel
The shift knob must be original. It's so old there's nothing left but bones! Late home market also had a tan/bronze dash. I used the Moss paint and it's definitely more bronze. The tan on your panel looks very similar to side curtain frame tan. I don't have letters, because I haven't found a good wa...

Satin would be closer to original.

To the best of my knowledge, it's just a wood screw with a round, slotted head.

Re: Su Super dry kits
I've heard both good and bad about them. I'm not sure why they work well for some and not for others. Maybe it's the type of lube used?

Re: Overhead Cam Midgets Versus T-Types
The PA is a slow car compared to a TC. I think the overall experience is similar, just smaller and slower. Obviously there are other differences like gearbox syncros (or lack thereof) but the idea is similar. I think the TC is easier to live with, but both are fine cars.

Re: TC Top Plate for Rear Springs
I crawled under as best I could and it looks like they are 1/4" thick steel plate. The position of the holes can be matched up with the bottom plate. Once you drill the holes, cut the plate on each side right through the center of the holes and you'll have the right width. But remember to leave the ...

Most people seem to use marine door latches. This is what FTFU and others sell. Search the web for "marine door latch" and you'll get lots of hits. Here's what FTFU has: https://fromtheframeup.com/products/ac1 ... h-set-of-2

The springs are only needed on the later aluminum pistons. If you have brass pistons, you don't need them.

Nerf Bars SOLD
Now sold, thank you. I have a set of Nerf bars here, just removed from a TC. Nice driver condition. One of the rear bars has a crack in the chrome right where the bolt holes are. I don't think the metal underneath is cracked, it just looks like a stress crack in the chrome from the bolts being tight...

Re: TC Carburettor Overflow Pipe
The routing is down, then forward to meet the front pipe, then both continue down the front face of the engine plate where they are secured by a clip. Escaping fuel ends up on the ground in front of the engine. The length doesn't really matter so long as it reaches below the bottom of that plate. Ed...

That's the stock type bracket, which will mount in the factory holes on the RHD side. But it won't mount to the left without drilling

Re: Rear view mirrors.
You can actually buy mirrors that do this, with the stock type head on them! https://mossmotors.com/407-488-windshield-side-mirror-easy-fit-bracket-kit One of our club members did something similar as you, but put the mirrors in place of stanchion screws so that the windscreen could still be lowered.

Re: Brake Cover?
Years back, I installed Alfin drums on my TC. I hated the silver look because the lack of contrast made the spokes disappear. I painted them a semi-gloss black and liked it much better.
The heavy gauge of your covers is odd. Maybe they were meant to be a heat sink?

The covers I've seen for various cars were intended to dress up the brake drum, usually to make it look like aluminum.

I use a general purpose grease inside, and a bit of oil at the pin just to help it climb over the striker. I don't feel like they get dirty very quickly, so the grease should be fine for many years.

Re: What's it like to live with a MGTC?
I haven't been without an old British car since I got my MGB in high school, which I still have along with many others. I have ten of them now - M.G., Austin Healey and Morris ranging from 1937 through 1969. Of all the cars I own, the TC is my favorite and would be the last to go. That doesn't mean ...
