Re: Front fender fit with tub
........ And the ghosts of the Abingdon line builders are have a good laugh at all this! Car development was gathering pace after the War with more modern styles on offer so it must have been quite puzzling to everyone at Abingdon why an archaic design such as the TC should sell in such numbers.!!!...

Re: Front fender fit with tub
I don't know about other restorations but with my TC I have found countless times that things will not quite line up or fit as they should. The magic number is 1/16" ....a gap just big enough to not let things line up... yet too small to drill another hole.

Re: Front fender fit with tub
I am not sure you want to bend the body irons which is what holds the frame to the chassis. If the running boards are bolted to the fenders (end to end)any gap between the fender and the body side suggests that either the wing or the running board mounting brackets are not in the right position. Thi...

Re: Removing rear wheels
Please take care not to pinch the fuel line when jacking up there. At some time in the past someone squashed the pipe on my car. It only came to light when I renewed the fuel line. I bet the p/o had fuel starvation and couldn't work out why! Incidentally, I re routed the new pipe so it can't happen ...

Re: Electric puller fan on a TC
I also have an Eaton supercharger on my TC but have fitted a "puller" thermostatically controlled electric fan. I have also fitted a 45 amp (Dynamater) alternator. I crack tested my original four blade fan and found a stress fracture so it was scrap anyway. Depending on whether you have positive or ...

Re: Thinking of adding this to my stable
I noticed that the rear springs have been replaced. I bought new springs for my TC and took them apart. I chamfered the ends to remove the sharp square finish and relieved the extremities to prevent "digging in" . I lubricated my springs with John Deer corn head grease although I believe there are l...

Well done Aaron. You are a lucky guy, that's for sure. What a delightful little car it is. You will be able to enjoy it and improve as required. Please keep us up to date with your experiences.

Re: breather
A quick look at the WKF Wood period treatise on the XPAG will show the expected compression reading on a good "stock" XPAG with stock compression to be in the 90-100PSI range. page 7/54. http://www.ttalk.info/WKF-Wood-XPAG-Engine-Book.pdf My apologies. I have removed the incorrect information. I sh...
Re: breather
Hello Uwe. I would not be too concerned about the exact compression reading. What is important is that they are all within 5 psi of each other. Much more than this then you need to establish why. Do the test with the throttle open and the plugs out. Make a note of the readings on all 4 cylinders. A ...
Re: breather
Be sure the engine oil has not been over filled. Check If the draught tube is clear. If this blocks it stops oily vapours from escaping. Check that the rocker and side cover vents are also clear . Excessive crankcase pressure from blow by indicates worn piston rings. A compression test would be help...

Re: Poor (at best) braking on my TC - advice requested
I've gone through the hole routine of trying to improve the braking on my TC over the years including 2 LS. The best improvement I've come up with is to put good tyres on the car, in my case the the Bridgestone radials. In a panic stock you can hit your nose on the windscreen. Charlie Hi Charlie. W...

Re: Camshaft Life
I cannot prove the mileage but I have no reason to believe the standard camshaft that came out of my engine was not the original one. In which case it will have done 25,000 miles and shows no appreciable signs of wear. I replaced it with a new fast road camshaft which is more substantial ...but whet...

Re: BMC Replacement engine
Ray, does the term "vintage" and the 1931 date determine some sort of tax or safety certificate exemption in UK? If so, there is nothing comparable in the US. AFAIK, in most or all US States, if you have a car that was originally sold with (for example) no turn signals or running lights, carbide he...

Re: BMC Replacement engine
Incidentally, you may or may not be aware that in England a "vintage" car is one that was built before 1931.
Presumably this is not the case in America.?

Re: TC wing piping question.
I don't have a photo to hand but I have arranged for my rear wings to align perfectly with the running boards so there is no "sticking out". Consequently, I have perfect alignment from the front of the car to the back. On my car the "gap" is only the width of the piping thickness, so the horizontal ...

Re: TC wing piping question.
Perhaps it is just the photo, Duncan...but it looks like the rear wing is sticking out proud of the running board. I would have expected them to be in exact alignment.

Re: TC wing piping question.
Stephen. I have tried to keep what is good about the TC but where the passage of time and experience has shown where things could have been done better, I have drawn a line.. I have tended to adopted what others have found to work in practice. Having said that, although I have no particular deferenc...

Re: TC wing piping question.
I carried the front wing/running board piping through the gap to butt up with the rear wing piping. There didn't seem to be a very tidy alternative..... That's what I thought. It seems like a design oversight. In fact all that area with an ugly gap between the wing and the running board seems to ha...
