Re: 1948 TC convertible top replacement
Are you doing the side curtains also? Half of the job of top replacement is getting the top and curtains to line up nicely when everything is installed.

Re: TC Steering
My TC was equipped with the typical Excelsiors. I will tell you that once I increased the toe to 1/2" there was no need to fight anything. It tracked straight down the road and following a line into a corner was even improved. I sold this car on BAT last Oct. and there is a driving video of some len...

Re: TC Steering
Give it a try, if you notice no difference you can readjust. Yes, the steering box has a bit of free play at center, they all do, but the problem is with car wanting to follow every groove in the road surface because of the front end geometry. The vehicle should not be wandering this way and that. M...

Re: TC Steering
Look in any MG manual that lists specifications for TA, TB, and TC. The prewar cars were set at 1/2".

Re: TC Steering
You know you can shim the box without the Tompkins kit. Have you set the steering up with the peg at the high point on the worm with the wheels centered? The peg can easily be replaced or rotated if worn on two sides. Set the toe in to 1/2" like the prewar cars instead of 3/8" it is transformative. ...

Re: Low Oil Pressure
Just to note that people like to blame the oil pumps for low oil pressure on these engines. However, as Duncan states they are indeed quite robust. When I acquired TC2911 it had 19 lbs. of oil pressure at idle and running. After I rebuilt the engine, .010 under bearings etc. and new CAM bearings, et...

Re: tc carb needle
To be more specific they were problematic in warm weather in stop and go traffic situations. Surging and generally poor running and idle. The standard needles worked much better.

Re: tc needles
I tried lean needles in my TC for awhile and they did not run very well, went back to standard.

Re: I can remove the pump aceite without remove or move from place the engine?
Why do you think your problem lies with the oil pump? Typically, low oil pressure is a result of worn bearings, cam, rod, mains, some or all.

Re: Alternative Wheels For A TC
Ok, I'm staying with the 19's and will be happy with them. Thanks for your input. Thanks goodness. You know aesthetically, a TC is about perfect, there is not a bad line anywhere, YOU can't make it better no matter what you think looks good!. However it is a package deal, it all works together as i...

Re: Rear engine oil seal leak
I feel your pain so I built a test stand to run the engine on prior to putting it back in the car and ran it for a good long time.

Re: Rear engine oil seal leak
Mark, you do have to remove the sump, flywheel etc. to get access to the rear of the engine. The rear main cap will be removed, but the crank really does not have to come out. You are basically setting this up so the alloy slinger is very lightly against the crank indicated by the transfer of engine...

Re: Rear engine oil seal leak
Just for some information, when I rebuilt the engine of TC2911 which leaked a pie plate of oil on shutdown, I used the Moss seal. These things require very exacting installation to work and really need the speedy sleeve installed which I did not do and my installation was not successful. I think the...

Norman is correct. I also found that it was best with the running gear in the chassis and the car sitting on four wheels as it normally would.
Re: Car hood
I could be wrong, but I believe I was told that Moss tops, curtains, etc. were made by Robbins which is an excellent quality top manufacturer here. I put these products on my TC years ago and was generally pleased with them. A friend of mine was a Moss dealer in those days so there was a financial b...

Heat gun was a good idea too!
I don't notch fender welting on my cars, just run the screws through it. There really is no reason to risk damage and it is held tightly in place with a screw hole.

Re: MGTC gearbox
The TC box is much sturdier. If you have had both a TC and TD box apart there is no comparison to the strength of the TC internals.
