Re: Brooklands screens

The screens are easily mounted to the cowl without problem and look proper. Why would you do it any other way??

Re: Rad shell & slats

Mark, If you silver soldered some headlight shells without problem, you might give soldering your shell a go. I just wouldn't advise someone who just spent big dollars to get a shell repaired and plated to try and remove and resolder threaded studs without damage. :( Also since you are a motorcycle ...

Re: Rad shell & slats

I had mine repaired and replated many years ago and the studs were soldered but the one at the bottom above the crank hole has come adrift. I tried some JB Weld that held for awhile but has since come off so epoxy is probably not a good solution. You are really just trying to keep the slats from rat...

Re: Rad shell & slats

The studs are quite fragile and heating is sure to damage the chrome. Could you get a few pieces of thin scrap and drill a hole to secure it to the stud and a second hole for a small nut and bolt to secure it to the slats? Sort of offsetting a few of the securing points? I know it is an odd repair, ...

Re: slushing compound

As Mark says find a radiator shop to solder (not weld) on a new bottom for you. They can boil out the tank and solve your problems for you. I had to do a bit of soldering on my tank and it can be done at home with care after soaking the tank out well with dishwashing detergent for awhile to get rid ...

Re: New body tub fitting.

I am probably not explaining this very well, but speaking of the scuttle, the bottom edge around each side of the instrument panel, is soldered to the inside edge of the front quarter panel where it turns in at the door shut. At least that is what I found when I replaced those quarter panels and had...

Re: New body tub fitting.

That is an interesting and probably a good idea. Although that said, the upholstery kit that I bought from a major supplier really did fit up pretty well. Suspect selling these kits for years and listening to complaints or maybe lack of complaints helped them get things pretty close to what they sho...

Re: New body tub fitting.

Ray,
It is good to be realistic about such an endeavor and being aware of your capabilities! That way the car gets competed and doesn't sit in a shed for 20 years...... :) I am really a Morgan guy so like my timbers and tin.

Re: New body tub fitting.

Ray, I built and skinned my own tub and fitted it and the wings to the vehicle at least 3 times. Once doing body work/adjustment, door and bonnet fitting etc. Second time shooting primer surfacer and finish body work, and finally putting it all together after finish painting, color sanding and buffi...

Re: Question about shock absorber links

I replaced the bushings in my dampers and drilled the links for a cotter pins and placed flat washers on either side of the bushings. There is no issue now with bushings moving.

Re: TA Original Paint Colors

Personally I believe that a TC is about as pretty a car as can be from the works and I didn't change much that you could see on mine and painted it with original colors and would recommend that to anyone. However it is your car, do what you like, there is a taxi cab yellow TC on BAT at the moment wh...

Re: Door repair

These poor old cars, if only they could talk. When I disassembled TC2911 years ago, I found pine and fiberboard spliced in and bondo 1/2" thick to make the various gaps more pleasing. It was just easier to keep the timbers that were "above the water line" for reference and replace the rest and make ...

Re: Door repair

As Mark has pointed out, that is the latch post rather than the door where the problem lies. Hard to say what is going on without some dissection, but one often finds that timbers are spliced in to make repairs that are less than durable. I found quite a bit of that on my car when I dug into it.

Re: Door repair

The doors are rather complex structures and given their age and mistreatment often exhibit maladies such as this. You might try injecting wood glue into what appears to be a gap or crack in the timber and then using clamps to draw the gap together till things set up. If you do, be sure to use some p...

Re: 1948 MGTC

I have a Moss green interior that I installed in TC2911 some years ago. The seat top surfaces are leather, the sides and front are vinyl as I believe per original. I was satisfied with the quality, installation, and how the interior has held up the last 15 years or so. I cannot speak for the others,...
