Re: MG TA1932 in Germany - Blog - all problems and ...

Franz does have a nice TA. Unfortunately urban planners do not go too far back in History when they decide to build something. Big floods and big fires are unfortunately nothing new. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Fire_of_1910 Here in California, whole developments of houses have been built on ...

Re: XPAG and XPEG Head gasket dimensions

A few of the early pro racers used XPAG/XPEG with no head gasket.

Re: Spark plug color differences

Keep in mind that gradually over time the head on these engines tends to warp upwards towards the middle. Or maybe it is that the head nuts tend to loosen more towards the middle? Any coolant disappearing?

Re: TC Differential

Robert- From the whine you hear--to the bits of metal in the oil, it sure sounds an awful lot like the pinion ball bearings are gone and getting ground up. The only thing keeping the whole thing from exploding is a straight roller bearing--also on the pinion. You need to disconnect the driveshaft at...

Re: tool kits and jacks

This original TC "Thor" knockoff hammer does not say Thor on it, nor does it say anything else on it such as made in England. It does say "1" and a patent number that can be traced to a Thor hammer.

Re: Bishop Steering Box

Looking at Andy King site and others, it would appear a new arm is interchangeable with the TC, except the small end hole can be done without the taper for TA/TB purists. Once the engine is in, and wheels on the ground, you will likely find the TC orientation of the arm (shown in first photo in post...

Re: Bishop Steering Box

Rob, you could put it in an Earth orbit and it would still look like it was upside down, when compared to a TC box and arm. So you are inferring that the hole in the small end is NOT a taper cut?

Re: Bishop Steering Box

Rob, sure looks like a TC drop arm. I guess the TA drop arm does not have a taper fit for the drag link ball stud, like the TC? If that was a pic of a TC BC box and drop arm, I would say you definitely got the drop arm on upside down. Curious the TA would be opposite. Of course the drag link that co...

Re: Bishop Steering Box

Proper way around for the arm to be installed is so that when everything is installed on the car, the arms bend is downwards. Bolt/nut that is for tightening the arm to the (vertical) sector shaft should have holes for a split pin to ensure it stays tight, and also the sector shaft should have a gro...

Good point, Ray. I never saw any evidence of any cork residue on my cap, and often wondered if there ever was any cork? People are emphatic there was, but what would be the purpose?

Re: TA Gas Tank

Hard to say what is original on an early TA. The nut and bolt would indicate a rebuilt cap, at least. No surprise there. Everybody seems to get the "ribbed washer" on backwards on the T-type caps, which can allow fuel/moisture to become trapped between the ribbed washer and gasket. https://fromthefr...

Re: TA Brake Lines

Rob- Yes, the TC front circuits came with the coil shielding, entirely. After the rubber flex line, the driver side line goes to the MC and has the coils the whole way. On the passenger side after the rubber line it is entirely coiled down to the union (see pic) and then from union (across to other ...

Re: Propshaft Balancing

Rob- Such black arts as this is the beauty of forums like this. Back when, people would take a well running and newer XPAG engine and completely take it apart. Balance engine components with a very accurate scale, or methods for certain parts as above, was carried out -- etc. before re-assembly. Suc...

Re: oil filter canister leak

People started getting rid of those original style filters back in the early 50's. Good for a car show? I used an old V8 relocation kit I had sitting around. Takes a large filter like FL-1A or PL30001 shown. Tight fit but filter never rubs. No modifications, except to "new" aluminum mount. Easy to c...
