Re: Coolant....with additive?
When mixed with distilled water, Prestone type anti-freeze is anti-corrosive and an excellent water pump lubricant. The problem with the typical anti-freezes is they become acidic/corrosive if left in the system too long.

Re: TC seat bracket fixings
That's great that Doug sells the rivets. Always nice to have an original/unrestored example to reference. Pic of passenger side. Looks like the impact on the hot rivet was provided by someone right handed. Note the flat heads. Appears they brushed on some sort of paint, after. This is TC9866, a blac...

Re: TV Restoration of 1946 TC
I can't stand any of those shows where they are working under a deadline. So fake. Jay Leno does a pretty good job of entertaining while specifically talking about troubles in restoring a certain car. The "restoration blogs" on youtube are pretty interesting. He talks about and shows his MG TA proje...

I agree with Rob.
Not likely the machinist did it. Probably not an issue.

Re: Dynamo Testing (TC)
This link tells you how to check Ohms on field coils--on bench. Original TC dynamo has two field coils, like the first picture at top. http://www.dynamoregulatorconversions.com/field-coil-testing-and-winding.php Getting into very esoteric areas, here. Many auto electric places would not have a clue ...

Re: Dynamo Testing (TC)
He may be talking about how to hook it up to a 12V power supply to test if it will spin as a motor. I never found that was a particularly useful or good test for a dynamo. Keep in mind that a replacement armature is not obtainable anywhere, so treat it like gold. After sitting 60 years I found the o...

Re: slushing compound
I also used the Caswell 2 part epoxy about 6 years ago, after hearing of all the slushing failures. No sign of any failure with the epoxy, and all my fuel filters are very clean when I check them. Keep in mind the 2 part Caswell is fairly thick after you mix it and pour it in, and there is a lot of ...

Re: TA Rear Axle Hubs
Rob, the TC calls for 140 weight. These non-hypoid diffs run cool, or, take a long time to warm up. Using too light an oil in the engine or transmission will cause problems, so probably same for the diff. Many use a 140 multiweight like 85W140, and many use straight 140.

Re: TA Rear Axle Hubs
Rob- If your pinion cap still has the scrolls intact, then likely no serious damage was done, unless some of the scraps ended up in the wrong place. If the cap is the same as used on the TC it is quite rare to find one with the scrolls intact, and nobody makes new ones with scrolls, just with rubber...
Re: sealant
Hylomar universal blue or equivalent non hardening Permatex gasket dressing (85420) is about as good as it gets for paper or cork gaskets. If that does not work, then you should try Tom's gaskets.

Re: Modern TC Track Rod
Steve- Keep in mind the stock TC drag link end (that connects to the steering box arm via drag link ball) has the spring opposite the other three link ends. Drag link end spring is nearest the outer side, not the inner side like the 3 others. The force arrow drawing in your article seems to show the...

Re: TA Rear Axle Hubs
Process for checking the pinion thrust bearings. Note the suggested mile interval. Can be done with differential mounted in car, but much easier while out.

Re: TA Rear Axle Hubs
Rob, actually I was trying to maybe solve the mystery of the Blower manual Fig 5 of the rear axle section. Figures 2 and 4 clearly show a double row thrust bearing for the 1 1/4 model and the 2.6 model. Figure 5 appears to show a single row bearing for the TA, TB and TC. We know the TC used a double...

Re: TA Rear Axle Hubs
Rob- Curious what arrangement of bearings they used on the pinion shaft of a TA diff? TC had similar spiral bevel setup and used a double row angular contact bearing on the driveshaft end of shaft, and a cylindrical roller bearing on the gear end, with a spacer in between. That was tucked into a bea...

Re: TA Rear Axle Hubs
No special tools required to change out the TC slotted nut. Having to buy a special big socket was fairly traumatic for people back in the 40's and 50's. I think most people would be able to figure out that if it was real hard to get off, it probably should be put back on good and tight. Using a tor...

Re: TA Rear Axle Hubs
Mostly the grease fittings are no longer used to grease the hub bearings, as the bearings usually get replaced with (rubber seals) sealed bearings. TC uses 6208-2RS. I like SKF in that size, made in USA. Sorry, do not know the number for the seal. You have found out about the limited lifespan of the...

Re: TC Bucket Seats?
Lou- I should have mentioned my seats are 18" wide at the very widest, where the light green meets the dark green. But built on a 13" wide base. Overall 24" high. I had to do some trial and error because I wanted at least an inch clearance when the door closes, and no contact with the driveshaft tun...

Re: TC Bucket Seats?
I built my buckets from scratch. Typical 1950's sports racer seat construction. One piece aluminum back/sides have a fully rolled edge for strength. Problem in a TC is the narrowness and the inner fender that sticks into the cockpit, and limits how far back a simple seat will go. If you are unusuall...
