Re: TA Front Axle Question
Here is a picture showing the one sided taper of a factory TC cotter made of hard steel. It is removed in the same direction as the bicycle example. Probably best for the home mechanic to try less destructive methods before resorting to torch and sledge. Sort of like removing the differential pinion...

They were likely simply going for a color as close to white as they reasonably could get-- that would last a while.

Re: Sump filter gasket.
J- You mean the sorta oval shaped gasket with three holes? https://mossmotors.com/gasket-oil-pick-up Or the round TD assembly gasket? The Moss catalog is great for identifying a part in question. If you are not familiar with the non hardening gasket dressings like (universal blue) Hylomar or the Per...

Re: Changing radiator hose
While Jubilee hose clamps are outstanding, and were installed at the factory on all sorts of British cars and bikes, I have never seen any convincing evidence they were installed by the factory on TC coolant lines. The most interesting original factory clamps on a TC are the two different ones that ...

IMG_0770.JPG The original "locked in" design can be retained by planning ahead. The two studs that go into the top of the elbo piece can be installed using (Permatex 80078 type) anti seize thread lubricant to install the studs. When the need arises the original (thick) nut can be replaced by two (t...

I ran a name store brand GL4 140W in the transmission and rear end, until after one summer when I checked the dipstick after a drive and it only registered foam. Now I only use the 140W in the BC steering box. Multi-weight in both transmission and differential, and no more foam.

Only difference between the TA/TB and TC is the extension piece. The part that screws onto one end of the MC, and to which the hydraulic lines get attached (at small end). Pic shows a TC extension piece (top left) and to the right is the improved (Phil Marino) mounting nut that makes it easier to ge...

I think the beauty of the original slinger is that it lasts indefinitely. Add a clever diaper and it will not leak on the floor on shutdown.

thumbnail (12).jpg thumbnail (13).jpg Of course the makers plate was nickel plated, and a few survive with original finish. Also, look at the door handles, where you see chrome on the handle and nickel on the base piece. Another finish that was likely back then is bright zinc, which can be difficul...

EXU9866 speedo also has provisions for a 30 lite. Do not recall wiring, though my original dash harness wiring was found to be in a perfect state of preservation, and is still in place. Same for the Windscreen wiper wires. The main harness was completely replaced, although all the original bronze lu...

Re: TC bonnet vents
Great website, Steve! I think common sense says that louvre's on top are going to allow more heat to escape when the car is sitting, not to mention the cooler air charge it allows when under way. I have never had to use the choke for a hot start, even when using the car in near 100F weather. They ap...

While overheating should not be a problem, how many discussions over the years has there been on hot starts and heat soak? Heat under the bonnet is not a problem until you stop.
Re: TC tyres
Unfortunately for the vintage enthusiast, uniformity of info on the exact dimensions and load ratings, etc for classic cars is pretty much non-existent. "Section width" of a tire should be the (inflated) overall widest width of the tire. Tread width should be just that. Overall diameter should be se...
