I am trying to establish the correct thickness for the piping that goes across the top of the dashboard and around the door openings etc. of the TC. The piping that came with my trim kit is 7/16" thick ...which seems too thick. I think it will look clumsy.
What do other cars have please?

Thanks for that, guys. I will probably just slip plain washers under the screws.

TC pedals fume excluder.
I have managed to fit the rubber pedals fume excluder over the pedals by using silicon spray lubricant and a hair dryer to make the rubber more compliant. (Round of applause, thank you!) The metal retainer however has big screws holes and I am wondering what type of fixings should be used ? The spec...

Re: Is this a correct oil pickup assembly for a 1948 TC?
Particular care needs to be taken with sealing the oil pipe flanges. Also, you may have noticed that in their wisdom, Abingdon positioned the pick up to the left side of the sump ...which has potential oil feed implications. Some people have added baffles to avoid the possibility of bearing starvati...

Re: petrol cap question.
All I have is the dismantled components. The end of the central rivet/pillar has been cut off to enable a new cork seal to be fitted. I have drilled it out and tapped a 1/4" thread. How long should the screw be? Should it be long enough to allow the top cup washer to drop away from the head of the s...

Re: TC Improved Cowl Bracket
I had to tap threads into strengthening brackets (that I had added) to take the stanchion screws.
The screws were not long enough to take nuts after passing through the brackets.

You are making good progress with the hard top. I could have missed something but how is it fixed to the body? You need a really strong attachment to stop it blowing off at speed!

Re: Magnetic UK badge
A word of warning to those who have currently a magnetic country of origin badge. I removed mine yesterday whilst cleaning to discover that not only was it`s location obvious but it had ruined the paintwork. It had "wrinkled" it. Now it may possibly be as a result of petrol "spillage" when filling ...

Just thinking outside the box for a moment; and it's obviously a long shot...but I would try phoning around chrome plating firms to see if by chance they might have one. Sometimes they have customers who - for whatever reason - don't collect. As I say, it probably would come to nothing but maybe wor...

Re: Moss supercharger question
Dave, that is worrying for me as I have also followed Archie McAllister's success story with his TF which, as it is also an XPAG engine, I would have thought a similar set up would be O.K. in a TC. I can only imagine your blow by must be too much for the system to handle or your non return valve spr...

Re: Moss supercharger question
I'm about to throw in the towel on my Shorrock supercharger install. I'm convinced that there is a fundamental internal issue that I don't feel like dealing with at this time. With my mostly non-functional Moss rear seal I've got to run a PCV system in any hope of keeping oil in the engine. So, my ...

Re: Lowering TC?
I am a bit out of my depth with this subject so please forgive me if what I am suggesting makes no sense.... but what tyres do you have fitted? I believe the ride height is lowered if you were to fit radial ply tyres - as recommended by Sherrell. I imagine radials would help with the appearance of y...

Thanks Steve. I shall be getting some for my floor boards. As you can imagine, our roads are pretty disgusting in Winter and the POR 15 should hold up well.

That's a good idea! Which particular POR15 product have you used?Steve Simmons wrote: ↑Mon Nov 06, 2023 10:32 amI've had very good luck coating wood floorboards with POR15. It soaks into the grain and is pretty much permanent, chemical resistant and hard as a rock. It might work well for body timbers as well.

You are probably aware that Oak is more acidic than, say, Ash ...and is more likely to cause corrosion should it come into contact with steel panels but I thought it might be worth mentioning just in case. Perhaps a protective coat of epoxy primer could be used or you may have other ideas. Good work...

I have bought one of Declan Burns' hydrostatic sender units that works electronically with a gauge on the dash. No need for any alterations to the tank as it is fitted to the outlet. Having said that, I have yet to fit it to my car as I am not yet at that stage in the rebuild. I will be keeping the ...

Re: 5-speed conversion for a 1937 TA
The TA rear axle has an 4.875:1 gear ratio (8/39) which is a bit lower than in Steve's car. The standard 1st gear in the T9 box is even lower than the first gear found in the TC box. Because of this I would suggest you take up the offer of a higher 1st. gear which Peter Gamble can fit to in the T9 (...
