I've had very good luck coating wood floorboards with POR15. It soaks into the grain and is pretty much permanent, chemical resistant and hard as a rock. It might work well for body timbers as well.

My knowledge of the construction method of that area is limited, but I would be surprised if the basic assembly was notably different from MMM through TD, just because M.G. tended to stick with what worked. But that's purely conjecture on my part.

Have you checked TCs Forever? There are wood dimensions in there, so you may be able to match what you have to TC, which would prove that piece is the problem. TA of course has at least two different sizes which I are both different (narrower) than TC.

I believe that TA through TC all use the AUA25 pump. The only difference I'm aware of is brass versus aluminum base. It's an L-Type pump running at 1.5 PSI.
