TC0999 was manufactured for the Home market in June 1946 with some modifications for police use with Hertfordshire Constabulary, registered as GUR 220. The car was in storage for 20 years, the log book lost, and re-registered as RSU 772 in 1989. The chassis and engine numbers match production records.

I bought the car in 2001 in East Sussex, and am probably the sixth owner. The chassis and ash frame were in good condition, and the bodywork largely rust-free. The car had many original components, some specific to its police heritage, and different to a standard TC. These include a larger than usual dynamo bulge in the left side of the bonnet, different positions on the bulkhead for a larger battery box, tool box, ignition coil and fuel pump, and a higher ratio differential.

A four year, body-off restoration was completed in 2012, respecting originality where possible. The car was returned to its factory livery of black bodywork and black weather gear. The restore note (below photo) has more details. Efforts to reinstate the original registration number have been unsuccessful.

TC0999 features in the 2019 edition of ‘Factory Original MG T Series’ by Anders Clausager. And in this article on TCs supplied to Hetfordshire police.
