TC side curtain box felt

Post by Warmuthb » Sun Apr 05, 2020 7:18 am

Hello all:
Anyone have a pattern to be used for cutting the side curtain box felt?
Not the same as for the TD, which pattern was easily found.
Thanks for any assistance.

I think the lack of patterns is because the pattern is basically in "The Book"

Page 171 (my edition) shows the dimensions of the "Side-screen Box Side" that will be you pattern for the 2 sides.

If you then take the 21.5" + 3" +10.24" it will give you the length and folding lines for the main piece. If you are going under the "Bottom Rail Support inside the Curtain Box" - Not sure how it was done originally.

If you doing a restoration will the bottom Support Rail in place, and just go straight over it once you get to it. Mine has about 0.5" gap both sides, not sure who can get their fingers in there, then I calculate a length of 21.5". That Support beam sould be 1.125".

The width should be 26.75" as per page 168 (27.75 minus 2 x thickness of the sides).

Hope this helps. ;)

Would be interesting to know if the felt goes over or under. :? :? :?

Thanks  that is good to know and I will remember that.

Any idea if the felt goes over or under the support bar in the Side Curtain box?

I am sure if the factory they would would have glued the felt when everything was still in pieces, So I guess the reinforcement gees over, but I have never actually looked inside till I wanted to fit mine.

Glue in the side pieces. Then glue in the third lage piece that covers the back, over the wood cross piece in the bottom, and back up the front.
That’s how it was done at Bodies Branch originally.

Als - felt was glued in during the trimming process - AFTER painting.
