Speedo drive

Post by frenchblatter » Fri Nov 04, 2016 1:57 am

I will have to replace the spedo drive in the gearbox over winter.

Can I tap the drive out with the gearbox top off or is it a gearbox out job. I've tried pulling it out but it won't move.

Thanks

Morning Dirk,

I do sometimes suffer from sticky gasket. Other times from wet joints.

Norman,

Not sure you can get to it from the inside but I've never tried.
Take a blunt (flat faced) punch and tap the sides of the drive flange from side to side (maybe try some 50% ATF/acetone mixture to soak around the edges first. Once you get it moving you should be able to wiggle it out. The other option is to take a knife edge and tap it in between the drive gear flange and the transmission.
It will come out!

Gene
