TC Help!

Post by mjshea » Sat Sep 23, 2017 12:58 pm

1949 TC
My headlamps and my brake lights seem to have simultaneously quit working...fuses are ok and I can't see any discernable wires unconnected. Any ideas would help. I find it hard to believe that all the lamps are bad, but I guess that is my next step unless anyone else has any ideas. By the way, the tail lights work as do the side lights, the signal lights and the fog light. Thanks! Mike

First thing I would check it the fuse. Next I'd move on to the headlamp switch wiring.

Do you mean brake lights or tail lights? The brakes lights run through sort of a separate circuit than the headlamps not going through the dash board switch as I recall.

Hi Whoever you are. Do you have a Volt/OHM meter. If so turn the lights on and go look for what is applied to the lamps. Doing this you'll possibly cut your trouble shooting in half. So do you have battery Voltage. Or are both sides no voltage

Sorry, Mike
Myself I'm rather new to the MG TC. Tho I own several old cars. Trouble shooting DC circuits is the easiest
trouble shooting their is.

Unless someone has rewired the car the ignition must be on for the brake lights to work. Otherwise look for a bad ground. Try grounding the headlight bucket with another wire to a good ground.
