Hub and spindle threads

Post by timandgerda » Wed Jan 24, 2018 3:50 pm

Just to be sure - Spindles, right hand side = right hand thread, left hand side = left hand thread.
Hubs - right hand side = left hand thread, left hand side = right hand thread? :)
Cheers
Tim.

Yes, the threads of (front) spindle nut and knock off are opposite each other (per side) .

Thanks Duncan. I have found several book references that agree but just wanted to check with those of you that have actual cars! :)

Trick I have always used is when using the hammer to tighten the wheels you always hit the top of the spinner to the back of the car.

Or that the spinners tighten opposite to the wheel rotation. Roll the car forward, spin the knockoff backward. Or another way, roll the wheel forward and hold the knockoff still, and it will tighten.

Also, spindle nuts are opposite of knockoffs.
