Facet fuel pump query

Post by jddevel » Fri Sep 21, 2018 12:20 am

My recently acquired TF1500 has a Facet type fuel pump. A pump type new to me. It seems unlike the SU pump to run continuously. Is this normal please? I would add that it has had an early engine fitted (Num 714) but assume that the carbs. etc are as per engine number 847 which was installed when it left the factory.

It's normal for facet pumps to run continuously. They start fast, and once the float bowls are full the clicking slows.

The Facet pump works best when used by the fuel tank. If it were my car I would have an SU pump in the correct position on the firewall as the primary pump, and mount the Facet pump by the fuel tank as a switched back-up. Or, if you don't want to rely on an SU pump, you can mount the Facet pump by the tank as your primary, and have it pump fuel through the non-functioning SU pump on the firewall.

Good as they are, Facet pumps do break down from time to time. The VERY best, long-lived fuel pump I have found is an Airtex pump, one of which has lasted well over 100,000 miles (not in a T-series)... I am not sure whether they come or can be fitted with with positive ground, though.
