Interior piping

Post by ian theobald » Sun Dec 30, 2018 9:06 pm

Happy new years eve to everyone.
Work has been a bit slow lately due to the constant hot and humid weather but now have door trims fitted.
Has been a chore to get this far as had no end of problems getting door locks to fully latch and door check rods to not interfere when opening or closing
What I need to know is does piping run continuous from the middle of dash each s inide.
If so I will need to make up extra.
I purchased a 2nd hand Moss kit with matching leather some yrs ago but obviously does not have enough piping to run all the way to the rear of last panel if run continuous.
It also was missing one rear panel but have since made one to match but can't complain as purchased total for 1000aus.
My only disappointment so far is that the bottom rear corner of the driver's door just rubs a bit and top front corner of the passengers door appears to have a larger gap .
What this is in fact the metal skin of the door having a smaller fold there compared to the rest of the door or other side door
When stripped back it looked original likewise the curvature of the dash panel under the windscreen post.
This also had no sign of disturbance although timber was not original.
It can stay like that and hopefully my car will soon be usable again.

I also had to make the dash symmetrical as one side was a good 10mm lower on passenger side and can only guess was made to line up with the door when it was all out of shape.
I have cut bottoms to align flush with metal dash sides and with piping folded around fits snugly against both doors leather piping.
I now have to cover with matching green vinyl and then reconnect everything.
I discovered that all instruments have been rebuilt back in November 1998 and possibly wiring replaced as is covered in cloth braiding but underneath is solid vinyl insulation of the modern type but correct colour code.
The dash wiring was a dog's breakfast even though correct harness was there so will start from scratch and wire up as per original which is fairly simple.
The dash is missing some lamp holders and bulbs so while apart will sort out.
Getting to the stage of having doors now with trim on and shutting now without lifting has been what I have finally achieved and once all back together can move on to having guards etc repainted.
Perhaps might be best to clock up some more miles on it first as it now has a rebuild distributor but has been nearly 6 months since last driven

Yes, the piping around the dash and doors is continuous
and sometimes in the kit from Moss there seems to be not quite enough length of piping to finish the job

The final fit of closing the doors depends upon whether all four (4) wheels are on solid level ground

I purchased a Moss trim kit and installation instructions were provided. I am new to this site. I can scan the instructions if that helps.
