Grill to cowl fasteners

Post by TBrad » Sat Dec 29, 2018 12:55 pm

I had an unsuccessful afternoon trying to unsolder the screws that hold the grill in-place on the cowling, so I could move them to correctly align with the new grill (slats). I tried my soldering iron and I tried a Benzomatic, to no avail. I don't want to overheat or discolor the chrome cowling in the process. Any suggestions?

Brazing is pretty much the preferred method I believe Brad. It does discolor the chrome finish but in my case the only stud needing repair was on the bottom. so with some buffing and fine compound stick it came out ok. A high strength epoxy or similar solution may be available. Vibration is your enemy. Good luck!!!!
