If you want to run the copper wires you will need to upgrade to a more robust ignition unit with an external "box" like Crane, or run points/condenser. Pertronix/Powerspark type magnet units are inexpensive and usually work fine as long as you follow all the fine-print instructions. Things like polarity specific unit, do not leave key in ON position, and do NOT use copper wires. The carbon core wires you noted should work fine with the magnet unit, and not damage its delicate electronics.

today on the road again, about 60 km
runs perfect
with the copper wires, they are new and with silicon around
asked someone with 50 years experience, he said no problem
so we will see
a new set is not more expensive then shipping from england

Hallo
so today after work i looked behind the dashboard
chaos pur....
i made a picture from the old key switch on the dash panel from behind
no wire on the IG point
i take my voltmeter to look if the switch will work
it works
i got the car without a key, but with the number on the switch i got 2 for 10 pounds.
so i took a wire to the relay in the toolbox and fixed it
now i can start the car with the key in teh old switch
one more step to an original like car ;-)

i got a old dashpanel on the bay
i took off the bad paint and cleand it perfect,
next step will be to chrome the outside it with this here,

not perfect but cheap
i will see next days how it works
then paint it black or bronce

i don t like my hyzard and directionswitch below the dashboard
i don t need the fog light and the dashboard light swith on the panel.
so i want to change this
i have seen a electronic hazard and direction light part to use standard switches like this here

you get it on-off and on off on
i will paint it black or iw ill print a black new knob

crazy ?!
12 Euros with shipping, some work and fun, and perhaps a better solution then this horrible thing under the dash

also i will try to fix the dashlamp near the steering with small led lamps like the picture not with the original screws, this position is perfect for this lights for the driver to see it.
no new holes in the dash, could be change without damage something

so it should look like mostly original but with the features for driving today.

if you don t like it write it, some other good ideas ?????

the dashboard in the car will stay as it is
i will get a second one... ;-)

so today
weather not to fine
so work in the garage
i take a picture from the dashboard

make a snap and load it to inkscape
i take the original dimension at the car, wide and high
in incscape i change the snap to the dimension i need
then to svg then to png
just fast and dirty but enough for me??

then look to the web how to print it
and found a program to print it as a poster in original dimension.

then i cut it a half
then I cut this one so it almost fits.
then I take old thin wood and cut out a half.
then the other one.
in the middle I use hot glue to join the two parts.
this is enough to make a cut, then veneer and stain and varnish
then insert the newly made middle section and so on....

the cut in the middle for the dash panel is a little bit to big,
so i have to think about how to fix it
forgot that there a screws to fix

i find a solution

i paint the dash panel again and put it in the printer case at 50 degrees
now i have tot wait for both parts

I'm surprised it was accurate! Photos always have barrel distortion and perspective errors. I'm glad it worked.

I cut the thin wood until it was okay.
the paper was too shaky

so the veneer is now glued on too

but what colour i should take

the dark one from the round piece
or something between
?????

silky lustre or high lustre

so a lot of questions

here the old engine mount rubbers
both of the top, there the washer was missing, so that s the reason for engine to low
so i counldn t use the hand crank

now it is ok :bow:

so today i got the 5/16 tap to make the new special nuts for the engine mount
i make them and put all together as it should be
now i can start the engine with the handcrank :lol:

next i wanted to make a holder for the two hanhart stopwatches.
i took stainless steel, but no good idea to fix the watches
two drills are now damaged....
so i took my computer to design a holder
the first one fits not perfect, a little bit to small
the second one is in the printer for the next 2 hours.
here the 3d picture

i will fix it in the middle over the dashpanel and use the loxx fasteners which are there
so i can take them away really easy

Nice work. I would be very interested to find out how you got on with the chrome plating solution. Professional Cr(VI) plating is very expensive these days and I have quite a few small parts to plate. Cr(III) is a potential solution (sorry, bad pun), but it depends how it looks and how durable it is.

it works perfect on small parts
i have plated in the morning some door handle for a Ford Model A
they have been terrible, i have brought them away, so no picture in the moment
but it works perfect on brass.

i have it from tifoo.de, the electric parts from the bay
i have bought 1l but only used 10 ml or less
3 door handle
dash panel outside
some screws.

just in the beginning

perhaps i try to plate my abs parts, there is a paint to use it....

so today first step was to paint the new dashboard and the new lid of the toolbox
i want to have al in the same colour
so if somebody need one lid in mahagonie , ask me

i will post pictures tomorrow, after the second paint job

so i am better with freecad every day, so i designedt a new basis for the map light, i don t want to damage the old one, i got with the car, a replica i think but ...

i got a oroginal map light cover, i don t want to damage it too

so i will take the replica to make a hole in the top to use it as a signal lamp i have to have in the car for the TÜV

so the new base will have some new function
map light, switch and 3 signal lights in it

tomorrow I can print the first parts to see if my design is okay or not #

I'll put thin copper through the little holes to turn it on and off,
I can rotate the parts 230 degrees.

in the middle I will put 3 wires upwards.
there I will place an LED for the signal light.
and one for the card light.

it will work, I believe in my idea

so today, hot aóutside, good for painting ;-)

finshed the painting of dashboard , the new lid too, all the same veneer

while i am painting the printer does his work too

3 times now i printed the map light holder, after printing, i have made some changes in design,
now nearly ready, it will work :thumbs:


still a lot of work and reading before i can change to the new one :x

so design of map light is ready now
printed
absolutly perfect fitting size

now i have to look for 2 led lights to fit it in the printed part
also two copper line to switch the light
will be a little bit difficult but it will work
it looks like the original but inside more and better funktion

Hi Franz,
You seem to share my interest in applying 21st century technology to the MG TC. Here are some things I have done to my TC: Note that these applications require the conversion of your car to negative ground.

Self-Cancelling turn signals using illuminated push buttons.
I used an existing electronic device to add self-canceling turn signals to my TC. They are actuated by LED illuminated push-buttons inserted through the dashboard's power output holes.
Our TC club, The Abingdon Rough Riders, published instructions for the installation in their May 2009 newsletter at: http://www.abingdonroughriders.org/ARR% ... 202009.pdf.

Another modern addition was the installation of reproduction 1932 Ford Tail-lights (Stainless Steel, Super-Bright LED, Brake/Tail-Light) From MAC's Auto Parts in the USA (part # 32-11957-1 $47.88).

Today classic car ralley next town, also we had to drive to my town,
the car runs absolutley perfect,
total 140 km
no problems.

he helps me all the time i had problems with the carburettor and the ignition
we got the 3. place in our category
in the morning i was realy afraid
will the car run the distance

also i got the 2 switches i had orderd some weeks ago,
now i will change the design of them, so they look old ;-)

the parts i painted yesterday are shine as a mirror.

so today I took the new switches I got yesterday,
I put it in the rebuilt dashboard I got from the bay.
the switches are a 2-way and a 3-way switch.
very easy to turn around
and they're not far from the original.
but
I couldn't disassemble the part to make the twist grip even more true to the original, but I have a printer ;-)
to print the middle part...
5 Euro to damage....
rebuild of the dash is in the winter, so a lot of time

the new dash map light is nearls ready, i have to wit for the micro switch in the base so time for something new

so after I've written this, 5 Minutes later :P

I took the switch.
I want to do i dont want to talk,
has always been my
so disassemble the switch
and it's easy to make a new button
you only need a little practice with freecad and a printer

I'll probably do the switch for others, too.
so you have a top modern switch for warning light and indicators in an original look, with led signal light around the knob
i will take the switches instead of the fog light and instead of dashboard lighting
so i have to take the measurment of the old switch at the dashboard ob my car

and 10 Minutes later
the freecad design with the original dimension
hight 12,9
in the middle 8,3
diameter 13,5

so i have to print them and see how it looks like

so i try to design it by myself.
not ready, but some more time and it will be.

some changes to the design and some metal work and it will be ready :lol:
