MG-Peddle Cars

OK GUYZ..... I have dug the plans out of the archives... The plans from MI are copyrighted. They are from the July 1984 issue of Mechanix Illustrated. Plans were purchased from..... Stevenson Projects. Inc Dept 111, Box K Del Mar Ca. 92014. the cost at that time was $10 (now $25, I saved $15 bucks by buying the plans 20 years ago). As I said earlier I did not like the way the wheels looked but a little effort on that would make a world of difference. I would have at least painted the discs black and painted spokes on not just plain discs. I would also have spent a little more time on the cowl so to make the double hump.(I did this on the one I made whittling it out of an L shaped block) The plans and car show just a slight curve. This looks like a pretty good project and I didn't have the time or place at the time.

This is nothing fantastic guys but a project to keep me out of trouble and make something for my daughter. I wish I had spent more time on it but these kids grow so quickly I wanted her to enjoy it. (Now almost 21 studying in Ireland at Univ of Galway) This is considerably smaller than the one in MI. For example I used about a 8"-10" wheel from the local cycle shop that was from a wagon or baby buggy and the MI plans call for a 16" bicycle tire. The MI plans show a 44" wheelbase, don't know if i ever measured mine. Like I said it was made from a pedal go cart picked up at a garage sale by my inlaws. I attached the wheels to get proportion and sketched what I wanted and just winged it. Chrome is silver paint but I did use leatherette or something for the seat. I affixed a extra wheel at the back for a spare and used the tripod leather strap system as on earlier cars. Wrapped the deep dish plastic wheel with twine as per old race cars and made the cycle fenders (oops wings) out of about 2"strap aluminum. The steering arangment stuck out in front and I used the blower to cover this all up. I think I made a splash pan etc to fill things in.

I put a 36" ruler in front of the car to give an idea of size. The whole car is just about 36" where the one in the plans has a 44" wheelbase
