My clutch is starting to chatter a bit . Is there a doable process of removing the transmission without removing the engine as well ? Thanks

There is a way
Remove the seats, rubber boot and floor boards.
Remove pedals and toe plate. Remove drive shaft.
Unbolt bell housing, mounting bolts and lift out gear box.
Order new 5 speed from Doug which comes complete with new bell housing and clutch.
Re-assemble and enjoy the open roads this summer!

I removed the transmission from the inside without removing the engine when I installed the Datsun 5-speed. I would NEVER to that again. Pulling the engine and then dropping the transmission is easy compared than removing most of the interior and especially the toe board. IMHO.

Can you get the gearbox mounting bolts out with the floor in place?
Just made my floors and unless I make huge cut outs to allow the bolts to come out I will have to remove the floor.
When installing I had the mountings ftted to the GB but because the side going onto the chassis is at an angle I could not get it fitted. Had to first mount the mountings to the car and then to the GB.
So it seems weather you going to do it via the front or the back the floor boards need to come out
I am now considering the bigger cut outs and fitting a cover plate using the same material as used for the brake fluid hole in the floor.

Hi All,
Malcolm forgot to mention to remove the propschaft tunnel - so it makes no sence to remove gearbox bolts
with floor boards still fitted. You to remove floor boards first.

Hi,
that is the jig I made to remove the Gearbox with engine still insitu - you can lift the engine on the cluth side
and pull the gearbox 100 mm backwards to free the input shaft from the cluth and than you can lift the gearbox
out of the chassis.

I find it easier to remove the engine. I can have the engine out in less than an hour.

I agree with Norm...Engine out in an hour with clutch attached, hell of a job getting the gear box out!
