MG TC radiator shell nose piece

Hello again, I am trying to trial fit the false nose to the radiator shell on my TC and wonder if there should be a spacer or something to stop the badge from pulling the false nose up against the shell too tightly. I seem to have a small S shaped bracket but not sure if this is from a previous owne...

Re: Brake fluid

Thanks all. I am going with Dot 5 and have an Eezibleed kit so will let you know how I get on (I haven't got the fluid yet so may be a while!)

Re: Lucas 40048AF measurement

Thanks Steve. I have a DKYH4A so it looks like I am good with the TD clamp only. Cheers. Tim.

Re: Lucas 40048AF measurement

I have rebuild my XPAG (for a TC) with a second hand distributor. It just has a simple TD type clamp, not the micro-adjuster. Do I have to put an extra spacer underneath it?

Brake fluid

I have completely rebuilt the brake system on my TC and was planning to use silicon fluid but have read that it doesn't give a firm pedal. Is this true and any advice on alternatives would be welcome. Cheers. Tim.

Re: Making and fitting quarter panels

Nice job Steve. My rear wings are in a very poor state so I don't know how well they will fit up to the tub. On the plus side I guess I can achieve an acceptable fit during repairs (if they prove to be recoverable).

Re: XPAG rocker shaft

Found the answer to my problem on B&G website as below: The rocker gear fitted to the TD engine up to engine No TD9007 was the same as fitted to the TC with shorter bosses on the straight rockers, Nos 1,4,5,& 8, than on the angled rockers and with washers only at the outer ends of the end springs. F...

XPAG rocker shaft

I am rebuilding an XPAG from parts (more parts than I would like!) and have a problem. The rocker shaft is 14" long as per early XPAGs and I ordered a replacement the same length. I have now noticed - during the rebuild - that no washers were fitted at the spring ends. When I try to fit them the sha...

Re: 30 mph light

Just to muddy the water - my TC number 10055, so a stable mate, has a thirtilite. However there is no way of knowing if the instrument cluster is original as lots of other parts definitely are not!

Re: XPAG oil pump rebuild

Thanks Eric - I have seen the ttt2 article. You are correct in that I have a clearance within the pump of 2 thou. I have now installed the old clip on the shaft and as it fills the groove it doesn't allow the shaft to be knocked/tapped further down as was the case with the thinner circlip I original...

Re: XPAG Distributor

Thanks Norman/Tom. I think I have found a distributor - it will need a rebuild but hopefully will be ok. The latest problem is the new pushrods (standard size) are too long now the head is down to near maximum skimming!

XPAG Distributor

The distributor I have for my TC XPAG engine is incorrect - it has vacuum advance, and I don't know its condition. I want to fit either an original type (not managed to find one yet) or failing that may go for an electronic look alike. Any advice would be welcome - I am UK based. Thanks. Tim.

Re: XPAG oil pump rebuild

Thanks Marv. I had thought that the drive would tend to pull the spindle inwards but it's nice to have someone else think the same way. I have a new circlip from the Octagon Club but the original looks stronger and may stay with that one.

Re: XPAG oil pump rebuild

Hi Marv - the gears have .002" end float with the end plate fitted. There is however a gap between the gear that is driven by the cam and the pump (cant think how to describe this but if you take the pump end plate off you can move the spindle up and down by .025") With the pump built up I only have...

XPAG oil pump rebuild

I am in the process of rebuilding my oil pump and have a question: I have finished the new gears (they were oversize for my pump) and now have the correct clearance with the end plate in place however there is some end float on the driveshaft. Has anyone any experience of putting a washer/shim under...

Re: XPAG rear oil seal modification

Just got the crank, flywheel etc back after balancing so hope to start the engine rebuild this weekend. My new oil seal kit instructions recommend removing material from the rear bearing cap, adjacent to the crank scroll. If I do this there would be no going back to the original system. Does anyone ...

Re: XPAG rear oil seal modification

Thanks Steve - any photos you have (I have already looked at those Norman has) would be useful. I understand about your bearing cap comment but it looks like I will have to remove some material to get the new housing to align with its other half and a small spacer would still mean I have to remove s...

Re: XPAG rear oil seal modification

Thanks for the comment Norman and Steve. The problem seems to be that the speedy sleeve is barely deep enough for the seal footprint. Did you put your seal on the sleeve first Steve and leave the shoulder in place as Norman did? If I did this it looks like the groove for removing the shoulder would ...
