Any modern temp. gauge can be used as long as you connect it as intended and keep the metalwork of the gauge free of the metalwork of the car. A wood dashboard or similar insulating panel will be fine for this purpose. No need to change polarity.

I believe the /2, /3 refers to the current limit that they are set to. You would have to refer to the Lucas literature to find out what the actual setting are.

Surely a flat topplate would be easy to fabricate by hand. A couple of hours with a hacksaw, file and drill should do it. They'll never notice that it isn't hardened.

Undo the bleed valve to eliminate retained fluid pressure to be the problem. If so, suspect the flexible pipe. Have you recently changed to silicon fluid? If so suspect swelling of the seals covering the small return hole or perhaps just a blockage in the master cylinder due to muck.

Only if there is a leak from there. Some people block the holes on the top of the rockers to bring the pressure up. You do have the gauge take off on the block and not the head, I assume.

Just a thought. Is your oil gauge connection on the head connection banjo or on the lower block connection? It should be on the bottom one to avoid the pressure loss in the head supply pipe.
