Re: Grease fitting that I have not seen before

The TC lubrication chart recommends Duckhams "ZNOL" KG grease as the handbrake cable lubricant.

I don't know what the modern equivalent is but I'm presuming it's a light grease.

Re: TC Dashboard chrome beading.

It was screwed on. Abingdon Spares supply a screw kit of 13 c's'k head screws for the top and 7 round head screws for the bottom. If this was the original fixing you'll have 20 holes to drill.

Re: Unusual aluminum valve cover for TC

.......... and the original style MG alloy covers can be bought new from most retailers. I did actually buy one of the repro 'original' style covers but was very unimpressed with the quality so sent it back. Some time later a genuine pre-war (TB) cover came up on eBay. I'm not sure anyone realised ...

Re: TC tank straps

Tank straps were never chromed from the factory and were always painted body colour. As you surmise, some owners see them as an aesthetic upgrade (bling). Many of the current parts suppliers now supply them as an option (usually with low grade chrome plating)

Re: front wing fitting.

I fitted mine with a length of 1.5" x .063" hard rubber strip between the wing and the chassis.
P1370684.JPG
With everything fitted I have a gap between the bottom of the bonnet and the wing of approx 0.5" on the right side and 0.75" on the left.

Re: Alternative Wheels For A TC

My TC is still on the 16"s it wore when I bought it back in 1966. It had obviously been raced at sometime and 16" wheels were a factory endorsed race option back in those days, although most frequently fitted on the rear only with the 19"'s retained on the front to keep the steering light. Re: TC Body Assemble Sequence?

This thread might give you some clues on running board to rear wing clearance. My car had both new running boards and new wings and the profile of the wing doesn't match that of the end of the board. The gap inboard at the tub is ¾" but grows to 2½" at the outer edges. gap.jpg I didn't attempt to i...

Re: TC Body Assemble Sequence?

The radiator and shell have minimal scope for position adjustment so you're right to start reassembly with them. Then if you have the tub and scuttle assembled, mount them to the chassis (with the engine and transmission installed and the car on its wheels as Stephen suggests). With the radiator she...

Re: Car hood

I bought a stock Moss hood in Double Duck(and side-screens). Quality and fit was good, although a little more care from me in fitting would have produced a slightly better result.

Ah - I have obviously misunderstood the OP's question (these senior moments are becoming more common :? ) The bolt he's referring to is that arrowed red rather than that arrowed yellow.

Re: Bolt for the Starter MGTC

The unified thread standard wasn't adopted until 1948 and I doubt if it appeared on the TC at all. The thread form is more likely BSW or BSF - although since it's threaded into the block it might still be Metric as on the original Hotchkiss.

I wonder if he means the battery and ammeter cables ? Capture.JPG The battery cable is the one secured to the starter with the clip. The ammeter cable is usually routed alongside the battery cable for neatness, although not normally secured with the clip. Not very clearly shown in this pic... P13202...

Re: Rear wing alignment.

I'd reiterate Chris' point that if it looks right, it will be right - and it will need a very sharp eye to detect any 'non-originality'. My own build was made with a new tub, wings, running boards and tank so the result I achieved may be of little relevance to your own assembly. I've mentioned befor...

Re: Ignition coil
